New Covid Decision Tree
Short Term Quarantine Independent Study Contract
Currently, students on quarantine are marked absent, but once parents/guardians approve for their student to participate in independent study during quarantine, the student will begin to generate positive attendance as they complete and submit their assignments on Canvas to help them keep up academically with their classmates. To facilitate this process, we are asking that you approve one Independent Studies Agreement for the full school year that will serve for any short-term period that your child may need to be out of school on required quarantine.
Upon approval, you will receive an automated reply with a full copy of the contract and the guidelines that we will follow to provide ongoing learning and support and attendance credit.
Please contact your childβs school if you need support or access to a computer to complete this process. Complete the form by clicking this link. You will need your student's nine digit ID number. https://forms.vistausd.org/Forms/QuarantineIndependentStudyAgreement
"Test-And-Stay": Keeping More Students In School!
Now that we have testing available on campus, students who are identified as close contacts (meaning students who have no symptoms but are identified as being within 6 feet of a Covid-positive person for 15 minutes or more) no longer automatically have to quarantine. Instead, the San Diego County Department of Public Health is allowing us to keep students in school if parents/guardians consent to having them rapid-tested here by Inspire Diagnostics twice in a week. If you receive a phone call informing you that your student was a close contact, here are your options: Vaccinated students don't have to quarantine unless they have symptoms. Families of unvaccinated students will have the option to keep them in school and have them tested, or take them home to quarantine. (Extracurricular activities will be limited during the test-and-stay period) We hope this will minimize interruptions to your student's in-person education while keeping safety at the forefront.
Options for Testing
Inspire Diagnostics is now offering free Covid testing for students and staff!

School Accountability Reports (SARC)
State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a SARC. The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators. A hard copy will be made available upon request at the school site.
The SARC contains all of the following:
- Demographic data
- School safety and climate for learning information
- Academic data
- School completion rates
- Class sizes
- Teacher and staff information
- Curriculum and instruction descriptions
- Postsecondary preparation information
- Fiscal and expenditure data

Community Forum Follow-up
We would like to thank all of the parents who have attended our Community Forums. Your input is extremely essential in cultivating an understanding of how we can best serve our students. Our goal is to close the feedback loop so that you know what decisions are being made at your student's school. Through our conversations and the information we receive we can provide these directly to VHS Action Groups and help facilitate future action.
*Our next Community Forum is March 23*

The Importance of Community Engagement
The work we do as Community Liaisons is built on interactive methods that bridge communication between our school and the community. Our culturally rich experiences serve as our foundation for helping our students and their parents in a safe and loving environment. Based on the demographics of our community, Spanish is the home language for many of our families and for this reason we provide bilingual support while also acknowledging and honoring all languages, backgrounds, and narratives. We assist in facilitating families with access to communication and resources. In our mission, we strive to make our greatest efforts to preserve our connections and encourage learning and education for both our students and their families. -Dalia R. Hipolito Martinez
