Starside's New Administration Team
Principal Hicks
Being the principal at Starside is truly a dream come true for me! I consider the De Soto District my home and Starside has always had my heart. I have been in education since 1998 where I started my career right here at Starside. Since then, I have taught at the primary and intermediate levels, was a reading specialist for several years and most recently was Starside’s School Improvement Specialist. So, when the principal position opened at Starside this last May, I jumped at the opportunity to become the next Starside leader.
On a personal note my husband Denny and I live in Olathe with our dog, Tucker. We have two beautiful daughters. Our oldest, Kaci is married and has three girls of her own. That's right, I'm a Nana! Our youngest, Kaylee is a senior at Pitt State majoring in education and is the Captain of the Dance Team. On my down time I enjoy spending every second making memories with my family and friends at Lake of the Ozarks and out on our boat.
I'm excited to be your principal and looking forward to this new school year! My goal is to continue the rich traditions already in place and watch the Starside community thrive for years to come. Soon, students will be roaming the halls again. Also, I can't wait to show you the new front entryway and cafe. I want to personally welcome each and every one of you to Starside for a new year of learning. Starside is a special place to be! Go Comets!
SIS (Assistant Principal) Brown
A little about me personally...My husband Stephen and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last month. We have four amazing kids. The three oldest have moved on into adulthood, but our youngest son Walker is currently a sophomore at Mill Valley. I have enjoyed being a parent in the USD232 community for many years and have always been impressed by the opportunities and support our kids received. When this opportunity became available, I knew it would be a great fit! I am looking forward to an amazing year!!

Construction News
Starside is currently a construction zone as they increase the size of our cafeteria. The front entrance access is closed. If you need to drop something off or pick something up, please call first to arrange a meeting time and location. Construction is scheduled for completion before school begins, but it all depends on supply and delivery issues!
K-10 near Lexington Avenue has been reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction. The Eastbound K-10 on-ramp from Lexington Avenue will be closed for the duration of the construction project, which is planned to be completed in November.
