Principal's Message - August, 2018
I hope that you and your family are continuing to enjoy the peace of summer. It is hard to believe that we will begin school at the end of this month. I am grateful to all of the staff, families, and community members who have welcomed me to the St. Peter Community this summer. Our first day of school will be on August 30th and we will have an early dismissal.
I am excited to embark on a new learning journey with the talented and dedicated staff at St. Peter School who are committed to the Christian formation of students in their care. We thank you for your continued partnership.
As we begin a new school year, let's call to mind the mission of our school.
St. Peter School dedicated to academic excellence, inspires students to become faith-filled, lifelong learners. As a multicultural community, we embrace our Catholic identity rooted in the Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ.
Families have likely received the packet detailing important information necessary for the start of school. Below you will find some additional information.
Morning Procedures:
Doors open at 8:00 for breakfast. Students who arrive before the start of school at 8:30 will report directly to their classroom where they will be greeted by their classroom teacher. Students will participate in school-wide Morning Prayer which will begin at 8:30. We ask that all students who will be participating in the breakfast program to report to the school by 8:20 because breakfast ends at 8:30. Students will participate in school-wide Morning Prayer which will begin at 8:30.
Pre-K Families will continue to drop off their children by entering (and exiting) through the front door anytime between 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM. The programs begin at 9:00 AM.
K-8 Families will drop off their children in the parking lot by the playground gate where they will be greeted by a staff member. Parents are asked to use the Boughton Street entrance to maintain a safe traffic pattern.
Late students must report to the office for a tardy slip.
Afternoon Procedures:
School is dismissed at 2:40 PM each day. Early dismissal is at 12:30 PM. Emergency Early dismissal is at 11:50.
Students who are picked up will meet their families at the side door near the playground. Parents and guardians will need to sign their children out. If you are sending someone to pick up your child, be sure that they bring identification as they will be asked to show it to the school staff member. K- 8 parents shall not enter the school building to pick up their children due to safety reasons.
Students who take the bus will meet in bus rooms on the second floor. There, they will be escorted to their bus once it is announced.
Students who are walkers will need to bring a note. They will gather in the main office and will be dismissed by office personnel.
After-Care:
Students who are a part of this program will gather outside the second grade classroom where they will be met by an after school supervisor. Note Well: Be sure to complete and return the form you received in the packet sent earlier to Zaida Solis in the main office by August 31st. Remember that space is limited.
School Handbook:
The School Handbook will be distributed to families at Open House. This handbook identifies the policies and procedures we will follow during the 2018-2019 school year. School safety, student learning, and communication continue to be among our highest priorities.
Communication:
In addition to Facebook, St. Peter Website, phone, and e-mail, a monthly newsletter will be sent to families electronically in an effort to maintain ongoing communication between home and school. If you do not have access to an electronic device and require a hard copy, please let your child's teacher know by September 4th. Note Well: This newsletter can be translated into any language by clicking Translate.
Thank you for your kind attention to the many details associated with a new school year. As the school year draws closer, please reach out with any questions you may have.
In Christ,
MaryLou Torre, Principal
