MRS. SAMANTHA MAYNOR, CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Today, Mrs. Maynor's students did a simulation with an "Empathy Belly" in all of her Child Development classes. Intended for use only as serious teaching aid, The Empathy Belly® is a multi-component, weighted “garment” that will enable male and female wearers to temporarily “experience” through accurate simulation, more than 20 of the typical symptoms and effects of pregnancy. Through this hands-on, experiential type of learning, wearers find out what it feels like to be pregnant, and gain a realistic understanding of the changes and demands imposed by the pregnant condition.
Students had the following activities with the simulator on:
- walk around the classroom
- bend down and take off/put on shoes
- bend over to pick something up off the floor
- carry a storage tub to the other side of the room
- sit down and stand up 5 times
- lie down on your back and roll to your side
- do five lunges or squats
- sit cross legged on the floor and try to stand without assistance assistance

MCSS Safe Schools Tip Line is an anonymous reporting hotline designed for students and parents to safely and quickly report any type of potential safety concern towards an individual or school. The goal of this tip line is to provide an extra measure of safety for students and parents as they report incidents involving students on or off campus.
By dialing or texting 256.536.8355, someone could possibly save the life of another. You may also email your concerns to 256TELL@madisoncountyal.gov.
This reporting hotline is monitored 24/7 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. All reports are forwarded to the School Resource Officer(s) who is assigned to the respective school. The school administration may be contacted as well.

Sign Up to Round Up!
The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive. Estimates show that if just half of the residential Huntsville Utilities users rounded up, it would generate approximately $500,000 to support our schools! By rounding up your utility bill to the nearest dollar each month, you help invest in the future of our students!
You can easily sign up to round up online:
https://www.hsvutil.org/community_resources/programs/sign_up_to_round_up.php
It might be a penny, it might be 25 cents, it might be 99 cents, but it will be no more than $11.88 a year. It takes less than 1 minute to fill out.
Thank you for supporting one of our community partners! Go Bucks!
