MacArthur Notes

Principals' Update
Greetings MacArthur Families,
This MacArthur Notes begins with the recognition of the immense sense of loss within our community this week. Our MacArthur family is sending lots of love to the Tracey family and all those closest to them. The tragedy that occurred on Wednesday evening is still fresh in the hearts and minds of many of our families and faculty members. Please know that we are here to support you and your children in any way that we can. We are so thankful to be a part of such a strong, supportive community and remind everyone to not hesitate if you or your family need assistance in helping to process this loss. Ms. Jennifer Jurkiewicz, our School Adjustment Counselor, has shared a few resources below for families to help discuss grief. Thank you for hugging those closest to you tightly this weekend.
This website from Children's Hospital Colorado gives resources to speak to children based on their age. Additionally, picture books are often a helpful avenue for having challenging conversations.
This list of books discuss death in age-appropriate ways and explain loss, and the many emotions that can accompany grief. Ms. J wanted to remind everyone that she is available to support. Her email is jenniferjurkiewicz@walthampublicschools.org.
The remainder of this week's MacArthur Notes will be a few brief reminders...
Our Winter Concert is less than two weeks away! K-2 students will perform at 9:15am. Grades 3-5 will begin at 10:15am. Carpooling is encouraged, as the parking lot fills up early. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, December 20th for this special event!
This year, MacArthur is working with Safe Routes to School to review our arrival and dismissal procedures. We are gathering information from families using this two minute survey regarding how your child gets to school. https://masaferoutessurvey.org/srtssurvey/ Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. If more than half of our families participate, the school will be awarded a safety incentive package from the state! The survey will be open until December 15th.
If using a mobile device, please utilize this survey link: https://masaferoutessurvey.org/srtssurvey/survey/34889
Finally, wishing all of our families celebrating these first nights of Hanukkah a happy and joyous celebration! Have a wonderful weekend!
