Progress Monitoring Requirements - Information Item
Best practice indicates that students receiving intensive intervention (the provision of special education services) should be monitored weekly, at a minimum. This allows for teachers to design individualized intervention and instruction to optimize learning and to determine when the student’s response to intensive intervention indicates that a return to less intensive intervention is possible. Teachers and related service providers are able to make informed, data-based decisions around how to adjust instruction based on the student's growth trajectory toward a both realistic yet ambitious aim line.
To that end, the first progress monitoring data point should be entered by September 28th. Progress monitoring should reflect the goal area. As an example, if a student has an IEP goal for literacy, but not for mathematics, then progress monitoring should be completed on a weekly basis in the area of literacy only.
As a shift from last year's protocols and in response to some questions raised about the utility of the aimswebPlus math probes, there is a slight variation in data collection expectations for mathematics only. Please use the aimswebPlus probes every other week and use your own curriculum-based measures in the off weeks.
