Counselor's Corner
Mrs. Martinez
Welcome Back!!
I am so excited to be starting a new school year. I can't believe it is already September! I am starting out the school year by teaching the Zones of Regulation to all grade levels. This week was Kindergarten and 5th grade. I will finish the school in the next 2 weeks. Then it will be the month of October which is Anti Bullying month. I will be teaching a lesson on the difference between bullying and bothering behavior. Here is my basic contact information in case you have any questions for me!

1st Parenting Workshop of the Year is October 23rd!
The GCISD Counseling Department is hosting an informative Anti-Bullying Presentation on Tuesday, October 23. The presentation will be at CHHS from 6:00pm-7pm. This presentation is about David's Law, a law regarding bullying and the responsibility of parents and students. It is insightful, powerful and heartbreaking. I highly recommend all parents attend this presentation.
Zones of Regulation
What are the Zones of Regulation? They are how we regulate our thought and our feelings. Green is the optimal zone for learning. We are calm and focused. Blue zone indicates that we could be feeling not as alert, sleepy, bored, tired, etc. Yellow zone indicates that we could be feeling excited, surprised, or annoyed. Red zone is when we are out of control and it is not expected at school.
Small Groups for the Fall Semester
I love to run small groups during the school year. This year I plan on running several small groups during students' lunch period. The small groups typically consist of 4-6 girls/boys and they run for 4-6 weeks. Topics include making friends, behaving at school, controlling anger and making good choices. If you would like your child to be in a small group, please fill out the form and return to Mrs. Martinez.
