NOVEMBER STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
The Character Trait for November is Citizenship & Global Perspective. Citizenship and Global Perspective means being an informed, responsible and caring participant in your school, your community, and in the world. Being a good citizen with a global perspective is very important to employers. This means becoming a responsible and valued member of society, wherever you are living and working, while also being able to think about situations as they relate to the rest of the world.
Congratulations to these #remarkable CMS students for being recognized as Students of the Month for November!
Congratulations Pride of the Midlands Marching Band!
"The Pride of the Midlands" wrapped up their competitive season on Saturday Oct. 30th at the SCBDA 4A State Championships. This was the band's first year in 4A after nearly 30 years in the 3A division. The band received 5th place with a superior rating, and was the highest scoring lower state band of the day. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and it is rare for a band to move up a division and finish in the top 5! The "Pride of the Midlands" had an incredibly successful season and would like thank the Chapin community for their support.

STAYING CONNECTED TO YOUR STUDENT
Parents often ask how to stay connected to a child’s progress and have some controls with assignments on the internet. At CMS we are committed to helping you accomplish this. We have several ways that you can actually keep an eye on your student’s academics and their digital footprint.
Currently we have three options. Parent Portal, Student Google Login, and Google Classroom Guardian Email Summaries. I have outlined the benefits of each in the table below.
CMS currently would like to suggest that you sign up for Parent Portal and learn how to log in to your child’s Google Account. The Google Classroom Guardian is also a great tool but may be redundant if you log into your child’s account regularly. CMS requests that you log into your child’s account regularly. If students are aware that parents can look at email correspondence, classwork and other activities regularly, it helps them make the better choice in a difficult situation.
As you are aware, District 5 uses a student’s birth date as a password. We choose at CMS not to reset these passwords so that parents can easily access student accounts regularly. The benefit of not having lost instructional time for “forgotten” passwords is invaluable, and when students know that parents and teachers can access their accounts, it helps them stay on task and make good choices.
If you have any questions regarding how to sign up for any of this information please contact our Digital Integration Specialist, Lori Powers at lpowers@lexrich5.org or 803-722-5573. Click here to access the document below with LIVE LINKS.
