Snack Attack Program
FCI is joining up with Snack Attack again this year to provide healthy weekly snacks to students whose parents choose to participate. While we are virtual learning, families can pick up their bags weekly at FCI. Once students are back in person, they will pick up their snack bag from the counseling office prior to leaving school on their in person days. If you are interested in signing your son or daughter up for the Snack Attack program, or if you have questions, please contact Mr. Kozloski (5th -jkozloski@hse.k12.in.us) or Mrs. Sullivan (6th -jsullivan@hse.k12.in.us) or at 317-915-4220.
Counselor's Corner
Connect with your child's school counselor on Canvas! On their dashboard they should see an FCI Counseling course. It is the same course for 5th and 6th graders. Here you will find many sections with helpful information and resources. Students can watch a brief introductory video of their counselor if the click on Meet Your Counselor and then choose 1 of the videos at the bottom of the page. Under the Virtual School Counseling tab there are links to virtual passes to see the counselor. We will continue to post resources on Canvas that may be beneficial to families during both virtual and in person learning.
From The Attendance Office
Virtual school begins at 8:00am daily.
Absences, Late Arrival, & Early Dismissal Procedures
If your child will be absent, arriving late to a virtual class, or leaving early from a virtual class, please call into the 24-hour attendance line, 317-915-4228. Be sure to state your name, your child's full name, their grade, SOAR teacher, the reason for their absence or late arrival, and a contact number in the event of questions. When stating the reason for their absence, please be specific to ensure the absence will be notated correctly.
If an absence is due to a doctor's appointment or medical restrictions, please be sure to send in the doctor's letter for attendance purposes. Medical absences are coded differently according to our state/district policies.

HSE Attendance Policies
Students are allowed 8 absences per semester and/or 16 absences in a school year. Excused absences are absences that have been called in by a parent or guardian. Unexcused absences are absences where the student was not present in school and a parent or guardian did not call the absence in. An 'excused' absence listed in Skyward only means that the parent called it, but the excused absence will be counted in the student's attendance balance for the school year. Medical or legal documentation is required to exempt absences for illness, medical appointments or legal appointments. Students that exceed the absence limit may be referred by HSE Schools to the Hamilton County Deputy Prosecutor for the Town of Fishers and referred to the ACES Program.
Library News - Curbside Pick Up is at FCI!
Students are learning how to place holds and request library books using both the Library Canvas page and the Destiny Library Catalog. Confirmed holds will be available for pick up at FCI on Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm during virtual instruction. Students who request books will receive an email from Ms. Zabonick, along with the first parent listed in Skyward, with pick up information. More information is available on the Library Canvas page.
MAKE SPACE FOR LEARNING
Your children will achieve their best work in a quiet, comfortable, and dedicated space devoted to learning. Ideally, this will be a different set-up than where they normally play games or watch television. Keep in mind that children will be in this space for many hours each day, and parents should watch out for any orthopedic issues that may arise related to comfort and posture.

Justice, Equity, and Inclusion
Racial Dialogue Circles
Racial Dialogue Circles are discussions with teachers, parents, and community members in the city of Fishers. Racial dialogue circles are designed to ignite conversations about equity, systems, and our responsibility in societal change. Participants will engage in small group discussions and activities that incorporate multiple racial perspectives. The sessions start with internal work that will unfold into community action plans. This has been implemented into our community by HSE Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer Dr. Erica Buchanan-Rivera.
