St. Louis Preschool Newsletter
November 2016
Parents Corner
November brings many fall themed crafts and fun to St. Louis Preschool. We will spend the entire month going over the story of the pilgrims and Native Americans. We tell the story with reverence and a bit of drama so that the children can begin to understand the hardship these first settlers faced. We will use a set of ceramic figures to help illustrate the story. We will tell the story many times until the children can basically repeat it or fill in any words that I leave out. They LOVE to fill in the words. This lesson involves a few hidden agendas.... 1) Listening, comprehension, and recall. 2) I do not allow the children to play with the figures which encourages self control. (Sounds silly but it is REALLY hard not to touch them!) 3) Oral storytelling encourages participation and imagination.
4) Empathy and overcoming fear can be empowering!
On a personal note I will be gone the week of 11/7. My husband and I are celebrating turning 50 and 20 years of marriage. (It's a big year!) Just so you know I would never consider this doing this if it wasn't for Mrs. Amberger and Mrs. Wanstrath. You will not even notice that I am gone. Please call preschool with any important information during that week. 812-932-1731

God In Our Lives
During Hh week we will be talking about using our helping hands. We have an awesome video that shows children making a choice between buying an ice cream cone or giving the money to a homeless man. . The children are usually very touched by the video as they see God's love in action. We use letter Ii week to teach about how important each person is to God. The PreK children will trace their hands and arms like they are raising their hands to tell Jesus, "I am here." Tues/Thursday will using mirrors to look at their face to draw a self portrait. Letter Jj lends itself to talking about my best friend, Jesus.
Play "Describe It."

Gordo g. Gorilla
Honey h. Horse
Honey is one of the children’s favorite animals. We will practice galloping to our learning centers. It is a skill we will continue to practice throughout the year to help improve coordination. We will eat a snack with pretzels and honey. When we eat our snack we’ll talk about the texture as well as the taste of our foods; sweet, sour, salty, crunchy, smooth etc.
Inny i. Inchworm
You can't talk about the letter Ii without talking about ice cream and igloos! We have found an excellent video of a father teaching his son the art of igloo making and all of its complexities. We will have ice out on a tray so that the children can see how it changes states,
Jerry j. Jellyfish
During our week with Jerry I will bring in a old fashioned juicer. The children will get to see the cut oranges, smell the fruit and finally twist the orange around the juicer to make their own orange juice. It is the BEST juice they have EVER had! We also will have a jelly tasting to find out their favorite jelly flavor!
