Virginia Department of Education New Requirements for School Counselors
The Virginia Department of Education has issued new requirements for initial and re-licensure requirements for school counselors.
Below is a link to the memo with links to the new requirements. Please be sure to review all the options to meet the new requirements. There are FREE online options. We have the links on VISION to access Option 3.
Professional Development Conference Requests
If you are interested in attending a conference please contact Office of School Counseling Services first. We will need to check availability of funds before you complete the Request to Attend Conference Form which is available on the Intranet. The link is below:
Once you complete the form, return it to our office with a copy of your registration and any paperwork required for the conference. It would be helpful if you could ask your principal to pick up a portion of the cost. Generally we’ll pay registration (if budget allows) and your school may offer to pay additional expenses. Also, you will have to prepay for the registration and then submit a reimbursement form through iexpense.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Virtual Loudoun- Cynthia Fillman
The Virtual Loudoun Term 2 registration opened December 3 and will remain open until January 11th for students in grades 9-12.
To access Virtual Loudoun registration, families can follow these steps:
- Go to https://www.lcps.org/
- From the “Select a School …” drop down menu in the upper right corner, choose “Educational Centers” and click on the link for “Virtual Loudoun.”
- Alternatively, on the lower right side of the LCPS home page, at the bottom of the “Quick Links” list, click on the link for “Virtual Loudoun.”
Some things to keep in mind:
- There are no fees for LCPS students taking Term 2 courses (this includes HPE 10 w/ Driver Education).
- Students may not exceed a total of 8 credits for the school year (so if they took a course in Term 1, they may not be eligible to take a course in Term 2).
- The registration system will CC the School Counselor of record (as designated in Phoenix) with each completed registration confirmation email.
- If you approve a registered student who receives accommodations through a 504 or Child Study, please email me the accommodation list so I can forward that to the virtual instructor before the start of the Term 2 session.
- Encourage students taking a virtual HPE course to carefully review the requirements for the required 70 hours of physical activity listed on our “HPE Activity Tracking” webpage.
- If a course fills, it will become “greyed out” in the registration system and families will no longer be able to select that course.
- When you review the registrations, if you do not approve a registration and submit that non-approval, that seat will open up.
- We do not have the capacity to maintain wait lists. If a course fills, families may continue to try to register in case a seat opens OR plan for a future term.
If you have a unique situation or any questions, feel free to reach out and we can discuss. My direct extension is: 21950 and you are always welcome to email me.
One final note, our current Term 1 session ends on Friday, December 14th at 11:59pm. We are working hard with our virtual instructors to continue the communication and outreach for students behind the recommended pacing. We REALLY appreciate the time and energy you are spending connecting with these students! Thank you!
