Parent Portal
Last Tuesday during the PTA meeting, our media specialist, Karina Hirschhorn, presented information about the new Parent Portal. The presentation will be posted on our website if you would like to view it and access the links that are embedded within the presentation. Letters were mailed to parents this week, which provide instructions on how to create an account in the portal with the user name and password contained in the letter. The portal can be found using the following link: https://portal.mcpsmd.org. You will need to click on "Create Account" and agree to the terms. Then you will need to complete the parent information and link your child or children. If you have an existing account because you have a middle or high school student, please do not create another account. In this case, you would add your elementary child or children in Account Preferences within the current account. Please note that if you have an MCPS email address, it will not work in the portal; a personal email must be used.
Monday is Open House!
As a reminder, our Open House is on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 9:30 until your child's lunch time. We would love to have you visit! In order to provide additional parking, the blacktop will be made available; however, since the first recess will begin at 11:30 am, any cars on the blacktop will need to be moved before 11:30, so please plan accordingly. Thank you, and we hope to see you on Monday!
Coming Soon - New Bus Dismissal Procedures
Beginning this Monday, October 9, we will begin a new dismissal procedure for students who ride a bus. If your child's bus is in the bus lane right before dismissal, students will report directly to those buses. Students who ride a bus that arrives after the initial dismissal will walk with their teacher to the blacktop, where staff and patrols will be stationed with signs for each bus, and you child would get into his or her numbered bus line. Once the buses arrive, students will be escorted by patrols to the adults who are stationed at the crosswalk and bus lane area. This will ensure that all students will board their bus in a timely manner and help to avoid any child missing the bus. On rainy or very cold days, students would continue to be dismissed from the classroom.
Where is that Jacket?
Our Lost and Found is overflowing with many unclaimed items. If your child is missing anything, please be sure to check the items on the racks and in the bins across from the gym. If you are attending Open House on October 9 or Around the World on October 13, this would be a great time to look for missing or lost items. All items not claimed by the start of Winter Break on December 23 will be donated to Planet Aid.
Parent Volunteer Guidelines
Volunteering at the school is a great way to be involved in your child's education and, at the same time, provide valuable assistance to his or her teacher. It is important that we provide you with guidelines that will help our volunteers have a smooth and enjoyable experience. These guidelines will be posted on our school website. We encourage you to review them if you would like to volunteer at the school. As always, we appreciate all our parents who give their time to assist either in the school setting or at home.
