Notes for the Week
This Week is an Intermediate Guidance Week
- Each week I want to recognize the great things going on at Audubon. If you know someone who needs to be recognized, please let me know.
- It is that time of year where it is getting cold outside. Just a reminder that anytime the “Feel’s Like” temperature is 34 degrees or lower, students should not be going outside for recess or walking track time. If you have a morning where your team is on the walking track, you will need to closely monitor the temperature prior to going outside.
- On Friday, November 13th, we will have our House reveal. More information on the reveal will be coming soon.
- Veteran’s Day, Wednesday, 11/11: Gym will be set up Tuesday afternoon, right after brief faculty meeting: Kathy, Rick, Jennifer and Steven please help me set up gym and decorate if necessary. Alternate plan for students on Wednesday: Students will go to their classrooms and head to the gym at 7:10.

Under Pressure
I used to work in a building where there were clear distinctions between primary and intermediate teachers. The culture of the building was pretty simple; Primary teachers “played” school while Intermediate classrooms were the school. This vibe plus the age of accountability made being a 3rd and 4th grade teacher very stressful. There was a time when one of my teammates told me, “Those primary people have it easy.” So who is under more pressure? Individuals who serve our primary kids or those who serve intermediate?
For the longest time, I thought it was definitely intermediate. Then I found the above research. This information combined with this research about the likelihood of students going to jail if they don’t finish high school means we have a huge amount of pressure on our shoulders.
The reality of school is we all have a very important role to play. The role each of you plays is vital to who and what our students become. We have a chance each day to Care, Motivate, and Educate our students. Let’s make the most of every minute.
