Congratulations to our two staff members who received the Herb Kohl Education Foundation Award. The recipients are Amy Marvin and Rebecca Gerrow. Thank you for all you do for our district. Our entire community is lucky to have you. Herb Kohl Award recipients each receive a $6,000 grant.
Presentations
- Jeff Ackley gave an update on the Buildings and Ground Committee meeting. He discussed projects going on at the baseball/softball fields.
- District Administrator Larry Palubicki gave his District Administrator update. He informed everyone on the role of our Dean of Students, that was hired for the 2022-2023 school year. He gave an update on a mental health grant that he has recently applied for. This grant is part of project AWARE. AWARE stands for Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education. The purpose of Project AWARE is to develop a sustainable infrastructure for school-based mental health programs and services. It is expected that the recipient will build a collaborative partnership that includes the State Education Agency (SEA), the Local Education Agency (LEA), the State Mental Health Agency (SMHA), community-based providers of behavioral health care services, school personnel, community organizations, families, and school-aged youth. Based on a public health model, this partnership will implement mental health related promotion, awareness, prevention, intervention and resilience activities to ensure that students have access and are connected to appropriate and effective behavioral health services. SAMHSA expects that this program will promote the healthy social and emotional development of school-aged youth and prevent youth violence in school settings. This will be a five year project, which will grant the School District of Crandon 250,000 a year. We will know if we have received this grant on August 30, 2023.
- Administrator updates can be found below, along with our Business Official's update.
- Jodi Resch Brownell updated the board on the Alumni Ties Seminar. Mrs.Brownell was approached during the seminar to help with the grant proposal COIL. COIL stands for Collaborative International Online Learning. This program allows for US students to work on projects and build relationships with international students. It is a great low/ no cost way for low income students who may not have travel experiences to be exposed to and connected with the world. In May they will know if the grant will be funded, she will keep us updated. She would like to bring as many opportunities to our students as she can. She thanks the administrative team for all of their support so she is able to do this.
- Bryan Schallock held discussion about Athletic Philosophy. He stated as a board member he receives parent concerns regarding playing times and extensive scheduling. Jamie Thomaschskey expresses his concern about having try outs for sports, he feels it may discourage participation.
- Taher gave an update on the current things they are offering in the School District of Crandon. They have introduced more options within the lunch program, scratch cooking has been incorporated back in and also more involvement with the students. They offer unlimited fresh fruits and vegetables. Please encourage your kids to go back up for seconds. They have also partnered with Forest County Potawatomi to offer fresh produce.
