Weekly Summit Report
May 19, 2022
News from the summit
Dear Seattle Hill families:
Could someone tell the weather forecaster it is May?? We usually enjoy days of eating outside by this time of year—the kids love that! At least we have a nice weekend in store.
Our 3rd – 6th grade students are doing a great job with the SBA assessment this week. They are taking the test seriously and giving it their best effort. We will continue the SBA next week with 5th/6th testing on Monday and Wednesday and 3rd/4th testing Tuesday and Thursday. The 23rd and 24th are “Wear all one color day” and the 25th and 26th are PJ days!
Mark your calendars for a couple of upcoming events in June. June 6th – 10th is our Buy One Get One (BOGO) Book Fair. This is a fabulous way to pick up some great books for a relatively low price. Weather depending, we plan to host a Family Picnic on Friday June 10th during our lunches. This will be true picnic where you bring your own food as our Food Service Department is unable to provide/sell lunches to adults.
Please note that students are still able to receive a lunch from school if they wish to do so. More info to come.
Thank you for blessing us with your amazing children!
Warmly,
Paula Nelson
Principal

New students - Register for the 2022-2023 school year
Have you recently moved to the area? Or, do you have a child who will be a kindergartener or new to the Snohomish School District during the 2022–2023 school year? We can’t wait for you to join us! Register now at the Snohomish elementary, middle or high school your child will attend. Learn more at www.sno.wednet.edu/newstudentenrollment.
Make sure your child's immunizations are up to date!
It is important to make sure your child goes to their regularly scheduled wellness appointments, which often include immunizations. The summer months are a great time to get your child caught up with immunization requirements before the 2022-2023 school year. Schedule your appointments early, as health care providers’ schedules quickly fill up in August and September. Make sure to turn in your updated immunization paperwork to the school by Wednesday, September 7.
Every student enrolled/registered in school or childcare in the state of Washington must have medically verified up-to-date immunization records on file with the school in which they are enrolled/registering before the first day of school 2022-2023. Medically verified immunization records include one or more of the following:
- A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) printed from the Immunization Information System (IIS)
- A physical copy of the CIS form with a healthcare provider signature
- A physical copy of the CIS form with accompanying medical immunization records from a healthcare provider verified and signed by school staff
- A CIS printed from MyIR

For those that meet the eligibility requirements:
- $30 guaranteed plan download speed of 100 Mbps
- 20 providers to choose from
- New or existing internet plans
- Three ways to qualify
Click here to apply and for further details about the federal program.
FAQs
If I am approved for ACP and currently on an internet service plan with a provider, can I switch to a different internet service plan of that provider, including to that provider’s low-cost plan, and receive the ACP benefit?
- Yes. The ACP benefit can be applied to any internet service offering, and providers cannot restrict you from switching service offerings or subject you to mandatory waiting periods. Sometimes providers prohibit existing customers from switching to low-cost internet service plans; however, consumers receiving the ACP benefit are not subject to these “existing customer” restrictions.
What happens if my provider has eligibility requirements for an internet service plan that conflict with ACP rules? (e.g. My provider requires that I pay off my past debts before signing up for XYZ internet service plan)
- ACP rules override the rules of participating providers in the context of an ACP consumer. For instance, a provider may generally require that consumers pay off past or present debts before signing up for XYZ internet service plan. However, consumers who are approved to receive ACP benefits are not subject to that requirement (since the ACP rules prohibit providers from declining to enroll ACP consumers based on past or present debts).
Note: The ACP rules clearly allow ACP consumers to apply their benefit to any internet service offering that is generally available (i.e. not a grandfathered/legacy plan) and prohibit mandatory waiting periods (47 CFR 54.1808(e)(6)(iii)) and restrictions on switching plans (Para. 166 of the Report and Order).
New Tyler Drive transportation technology
Our school district has chosen Seattle Hill Elementary to pilot a new program called Tyler Drive. I have attached an information sheet outlining the program, its purpose and the plan for it's usage. I don't have any information aside from what is in the brochure but will be sure to pass along info as I receive it. If you have any questions about this program, please reach out to your child's bus driver or contact the Transportation department at 360-563-3535.
Thank you.

Volunteer Information:
We are again utilizing volunteers in schools on a limited basis. At this time only vaccinated individuals will be permitted to volunteer in our schools/campuses.
To volunteer in our schools/campuses, please complete the following online form. This form must be completed every two years. For the safety of our students, volunteer applicants must undergo a Washington State Patrol background check before beginning service. Volunteers will also need to present a valid state vaccination card for COVID-19 to the school administrator and follow the school’s volunteer process. Schools may need to monitor and limit the number of volunteers in a building to meet the state COVID-19 guidelines for social distancing. Parent/guardians are welcome to volunteer from home by assisting teachers remotely.
Volunteers who have completed the background application and showed proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required to:
- Sign in at the school main office
- Present proper state ID
- Stay home if experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms
School & district news
- Listserv - If you would like to receive district and school newsletters, or if you have a high school student who wants to receive the school Daily Bulletin, please subscribe to our listserv subscription tool. For directions on how to subscribe or change your subscription preferences (for those already signed up), please click here.
- Facebook - Today, 10,000 Facebook fans receive regular district updates through our district's Facebook page - www.facebook.com/snohomishschooldistrict. This site is just one of many ways we communicate with our students, staff, families and community. Although we are aware of other Facebook pages, please note that this is the only verified Facebook page of the Snohomish School District and is where official information is posted.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents and families to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and email addresses on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.

COVID-19 reminders
Testing positive for COVID-19
Those who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate. The individual may return to school after five full days (day 0 is the first day of symptoms) of isolation if:
- Their symptoms have improved, or they have no symptoms, and
- They are without a fever for the past 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.
COVID-19 testing
All students and staff have access to screening and diagnostic testing through our schools. Our school administrators, nurses and other trusted adults in our schools have the capacity to test those with symptoms and those without. Our school offices and health rooms have access to rapid antigen tests. Testing will only be conducted on those individuals who have requested screening or diagnostic testing and have provided consent through the SimpleReport online tool.
In order to administer the rapid antigen tests, the state has mandated an online recording mechanism through a tool called SimpleReport. As part of the district testing process, parents/guardians and individuals ages 18+ must enroll and provide consent through the online registration tool prior to testing.
COVID-19 symptoms
Students and staff who have COVID-19 symptoms are required to stay home. If a student or staff member exhibits COVID-19 like symptoms at school, they will be immediately isolated from others and sent home. They can return to school under the following DOH timelines and guidelines.
Exposed to COVID-19
Exposed students and staff may continue to take part in all in-person instruction, including athletics, performing arts, and other extracurricular activities, as long as they are not symptomatic. If an exposed student or staff member develops symptoms, they are required to immediately isolate at home and follow the appropriate protocols.
Students and staff who were potentially exposed to COVID-19 are encouraged to:
- Monitor for symptoms, and
- Consider wearing a well-fitted face covering/mask (if age appropriate) for 10 days after the last date of exposure, especially during activities like high-risk indoor sports, performing arts, etc., and
- Get tested 3-5 days after their last exposure. Those who test positive, must isolate.
COVID-19 reporting
Through our online Self-Reporting Tool, students and staff can report if they or their student have tested positive for COVID-19. All positive cases of COVID-19 should continue to be reported to the school nurse or principal so we can provide guidance and support.
Those who test positive for COVID-19 outside of the school setting should also self-report through one of the following DOH tools:
- Use the WANotify App to report positive result.
- Contact the DOH COVID-19 hotline at 1-800-525-0127, then press #, to report the positive result from an over-the-counter test.
