Welcome to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary & St Matthew
The mystical works of our unfathomable God are often unexplainable and even inconceivable, yet that does not make them any less magnificently true! As the apostles saw Jesus transfigured upon the mountain, but we glimpse his glory in the Eucharist.
Pope Francis Monthly Intention: A Christian Response to Bioethical Challenges
We pray for Christians facing new bioethical challenges; may they continue to defend the dignity of all human life with prayer and action.
We pray for the Ukraine...
Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine, for their country and their leader.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace in Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen
Our prayerful sympathy...
to the family of Ray Pettit, particularly Ray’s brother Harry and sister in law Maureen. Ray’s Requiem was celebrated at the Cathedral on Tuesday.
Today (Friday) we celebrated a Requiem Mass for Sr Rita Marie Hassan. Our prayers are with the Mission sisters and the extended Hassan and Snook families. Sr Rita Marie celebrated her 100th birthday last year. She had a lifelong association with the Cathedral parish and taught at Sacred Heart College for many years.
May Ray and Sr Rita Marie rest in peace
