Taft Elementary Newsletter - August/September 2017

A Note from the Principal

Welcome back! We are off to a fantastic start and we're so excited to have all the kids back in the building. We have a lot of new students that we're anxious to meet, too.

We had the pleasure of meeting several parents at our Sneak Peak, but we're hoping that EVERYONE will join us for our Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 29th from 5:30-7:00 P.M. We will have two sessions in classrooms with a parent meeting in the gym scheduled in between. If you only have one child, we hope that you'll either stay after the first session or come before the second session in order to attend the parent meeting. The schedule will be as follows:

5:30-5:55 - First Classroom Session

6:00-6:15 - Parent Meeting in the Gym with Principal

6:20-6:45 - Second Classroom Session

6:50-7:00 - Closure and Cookies (at the main entrance)

Just a couple notes about pick-up & drop-off...As I'm sure you've noticed, we have a small parking lot and limited space in our drive-through for parents. Please be VERY careful to drop kids off at the curb and be considerate of other drivers. It gets crowded, but we're generally able to get all of the students loaded up in 5-10 minutes and everyone is on their way.

Also, please remember that we do NOT have adult supervision for the playground until 8:15. We prefer that students not arrive to school before then. Thank you!

Let's Stay in Touch

Research tells us that the number one influence on a child's academic success is PARENT INVOLVEMENT. That may not come as a surprise to anyone, but we take that information very seriously. In order for us to help you help your children, we need to be able to communicate. Fortunately, thanks to current technology and social media, it's never been easier to share information.

Last year we started using a mobile app called Remind which allows me to send text notifications to parents. We used this app to send reminders of important events, announce school closures during last year's snow-pocalypse, and notify parents of late buses.

Right now, however, we only have 51 parents connected. We would love to have ALL of our parents receiving these messages. It's a FREE app, so please consider joining our Remind group called Taft Parents. Just click on the link and follow the directions. Click here. Thank you!!!

Annual Notification Regarding Public Release of Student Directory Information

The Boise School District complies with federal law (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) as it relates to the release of student directory information to the public. To learn more, log on to www.boiseschools.org, and go to Parents & Patrons > Parent Information > FERPA Form. You may also pick up a FERPA form at your school, or call the Clerk of the Board at 854-4123 to obtain a copy of the FERPA form.

Annual Notification of Title I Status

Every year, we are required to inform our parent community that Taft Elementary is a school that receives Title I funding. Ultimately, that means that we are able to hire additional staff to provide additional assistance in math, reading, and writing. We are also able to provide additional professional development to our instructional staff and purchase additional supplies and technology to support students in the classroom.

Additionally, it's important that all parents are familiar with our District Parent Involvement Policy and our Taft Elementary Partnership Action Plan.
