The school offices throughout the district are not currently open to the public for everyone's safety. However, the secretaries are working and will respond quickly to phone calls and emails.

Principal's Message

Dear West TV families,


The district will continue to email all BSD families updates about return to in-person instruction over the next few weeks. The most recent email was sent on Tuesday, January 19th - if you did not receive it, please check in your spam or junk email folder. If you cannot locate it, please call the school office as we may not have a correct email address for you. Thank you for your continued support as we all navigate through these challenging times.


Registration for 21-22

Registration for Kindergarten and all new students for the 21-22 school year begins February 1st. Any child who will be five (5) years of age on or before September 1 is eligible to enroll for Kindergarten. Families are able to register online. Link to register online: click here.


I encourage families to register during the month of February if at all possible so we can begin planning for next year.


If you have questions about registration, you can call the office between 7:30am-2:30pm or come to a Registration Information Q&A session on zoom, Wednesday, February 10th @ 12:00pm . The West TV secretaries and I will be available to answer questions about registering for next year.

Kindergarten Orientation

There will be a Kindergarten Orientation this spring. This is an opportunity for parents with incoming Kindergarten students to learn about the school and Kindergarten curriculum. It will be held virtually via Zoom on May 20th at 6:00pm.

TAG/Summa Updates

Thank you for your patience as we navigate TAG/Summa testing during the 2020-21 school year. The following updates have been made to our current Identification processes to reflect comprehensive distance learning and research on test score stability.


TAG/Summa Testing

  • TAG testing for students nominated by parents or teachers will occur in the spring

  • Current 5th graders will have the opportunity to qualify for Summa by testing in late spring/summer

  • Outdoor testing opportunities for TAG/Summa will also be available in early summer

  • Current 3rd and 4th graders will take reading and math achievement tests (ITBS) in the fall

  • Current 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders will take a cognitive ability (CogAT) screener test in fall

  • In addition to national norms, local norms will be explored for TAG/Summa identification

Summa Qualifying Tests and Criteria

  • No change in admission criteria, only tests used

  • Results from full version CogAT tests (composite score ) in grades K-5 can be used to qualify for Summa

  • Results of achievement tests in grades 3-5 can be used to qualify for Summa

    • Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) Language Arts and Math tests

    • ITBS/Logramos Reading and Math tests (total scores)

Communication

  • Testing opportunities will be posted on the BSD TAG page as they become available

  • Invitations to test will be sent via School Messenger prior to testing dates

  • Summa eligible students will be notified before January 15, 2021

Immunization Exclusion Day Information

The Immunization Exclusion Day for 2020-21 is February 17, 2021.

All children who are not up to date with their immunizations will be excluded from being physically in the building.


We know that with the COVID-19 protocols in place, getting your child/children up to date with their immunizations may require some advanced planning. You may even be hesitant to go to a doctor's office. We, also, know that with the current distant learning your student is not physically in the building. We do want you to know that when public schools return to in school learning at any capacity and if your child/children are not current with their immunizations they will not be able to be physically in the building.


When this happens, you would have several options available to you:

  1. become current with immunizations.
  2. remain in CDL.
  3. notify us if you are exempt from the immunization schedule with an official document.


We'd like to make you aware that between now and exclusion day you will be receiving several communications from either us in the office, from the District, or from Washington County. If you are current and you still receive a notification, then please let us know so we can align our communication to better match your child's immunization records.

Inclement Weather Information During CDL

All classes and school schedules will continue on time in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), even if district facilities are closed due to inclement weather. In other words, we will not have any "snow days" in CDL.


If district facilities are closed, any on-site classes/programs including Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) will be canceled. All daytime and evening activities/events also will be canceled. For more information, please visit the Inclement Weather Information webpage.

Hello West TV Families!


My name is Kaija Daniel-Hoffman and I am the school counselor here at West TV. As a professional school counselor, I serve students in our school through whole class lessons, small groups, and individual counseling to support students in their social, emotional and academic growth. PTC

The West TV Parent Teacher Club (PTC) is an independent organization that seeks to enhance the scholastic and extracurricular lives of West TV students. PTC meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. The dates for each month's meeting can be found on the school and PTC websites. Visit the West TV PTC website to learn more and connect with us!

Community Resources

  • Anyone can call 211 for assistance with housing, childcare, utility bills, or if you have health and safety questions or need any other resources. Help is available in several languages. You can also get help online at http://211.org/.
