HONORS EVENTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
New and Improved Honors College!
When you come into the Honor House you may see something new. Working with RISE Creative, the Honors College has rebranded itself with a new mark and tagline: Discover. Experience. Thrive.
General Honors has been renamed Honors Foundations as students acquire knowledge through enhanced educational opportunities across the disciplines. Through 18 hours of honors-designated core classes and two hours of University Forum, students will be prepared to embark on original research in the second half of the Honors curriculum—Honors Keystone.
Formerly Senior Honors, Honors Keystone gives students the exciting opportunity to develop as scholars and thinkers by designing and executing an original research thesis. From design through implementation and execution, each step provides students with knowledge, skills and aptitudes that advance them toward a vital and vibrant future.
Come by the office once you’re settled in to see all the new recruitment materials and other exciting changes.
Changes in the office
It is with sadness that we bid goodbye this week to Sonya Evans, our longtime Honors College Administrative Assistant. As anyone who has passed through the doors of the Honor House knows, “Ms. Sonya” is a warm and generous soul who loves our students (and puppies!) with all her heart. She has served the Honors College well for many years, and her departure will leave a big hole. We wish her well as she embarks on a new life in Baltimore—and hope she comes back to see us often. If you have a minute to drop her a line, please do so—I know she’ll appreciate it.
We are also pleased to welcome to the staff Jessica Francis, who will be in the front office from now on. Having just moved here from Ohio, Ms. Francis has thrown herself into the job quickly and with gusto. I know you will enjoy meeting and getting to know her as much as we will enjoy working with her. Please say hello to her next time you’re on campus!
Congrats Kristen Dupard!
Current Honors College student, McNair scholar, Luckyday scholar, Biochemistry major, and Clinton Global Initiative University attendee has been crowned Miss University of Southern Mississippi!
As first runner-up, she will be ascending in place of Honors College alumnae Hannah Roberts, who won the Miss Mississippi Pageant in June.
Congratulations on all of the amazing things you have achieved and will continue to do, Kristen!
New Printing Policy
Due to the increase in printing, we need to reconsider our printing policy--both for our budget and sustainability reasons. If you're printing during business hours, paper (5-sheet limit) is located at the GA desk. Please see the on-duty GA for assistance. If you're printing during non-business hours, you will need to supply your own paper. Also, please remember that printing is reserved for academic purposes—please do not print “recreationally.” We want to continue offering this service, so please respect the policies! Thanks!
