NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
Foundations for Life Long Learning - 26 July 2018
Grey hair is a crown of splendour;
it is attained in the way of righteousness.
After a beautiful Mass prepared by our Year Six students and led by Fr Quynh, our school grandparents visited their grandchildren’s classes before being treated to a magnificent morning tea. In his Homily Fr Quynh reminded us of just how significant his grandparents were in his life and that we all have much to learn from our own grandparents, just as he did from his. I hope all grandparents who were able to attend enjoyed the morning and were reminded of just how special they are. Thank you to all who assisted with the preparations for the morning, especially Joanita Stapleton who coordinated the wonderful morning tea.
Last Saturday Amelia Hindmarsh had her beautiful blonde hair shaved off in support of the Leukemia Foundation. See all of the details in the Year Three Class News, which appears later in the Newsletter.
Next Wednesday we celebrate our annual pyjama day in support of the homeless in our area. All staff and students (and parents if they wish) are invited to come to school in their PJs rather than their normal school clothes. The purpose of the day is two-fold; firstly to raise funds through a gold coin donation and, secondly, and more importantly, to raise awareness of the plight of those who do not have the same privileges of a safe, secure home and warm bed to sleep in that we take for granted. After a fun day of pyjama wearing I will sleep in a cardboard box in the undercover area.
4 YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN MEETING
This could be a very interesting meeting for the parents of the children who will be commencing Kindergarten in 2019 next Wednesday as the Kindy staff and I will still be in our pyjamas from PJ Day. I hope they can ignore the stripes to hear the important information that we have to share. The meeting will commence at 6.30pm and last for approximately an hour. It is preferable that children do not attend this meeting.
CLASS NEWS - YR 3
Term 3 has started with a bang! In Week 4, we are performing at St Benedict’s Church as part of the Performing Arts festival. We have been practising with Mr Loiacono to showcase our singing talents. We will be singing two hymns ‘This is our Faith’ and ‘We are gathered here in the presence of the Lord’.
In Literacy, we have been learning how to write a procedure text using appropriate language including; nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives and time sequence words. The fun part of this included making choc-chip cookies.
In mathematics, our focus has been fractions and the names of the different parts of a fraction. We are able to talk about the numerator and denominator and identify halves, quarters, sixths and eighths.
In Term 2 we learnt about Australia and this term we will be exploring the climate zones around the world including Australia and its neighbours. We have a new app on our iPads, ‘Bound Round’ that is going to help us explore the world at the touch of a button.
We hope to see you at our assemblies this term, tomorrow and Friday of Week 5.

Participants in this training will be introduced to the key principles of Systems Theory and to a number of the major approaches to working with couples, including Emotionally Focussed Therapy for Couples and John and Julie Gottman's work. How we develop our understanding of the couple dynmanic, how to intervene when the dynamic is receptively unhelpful and how to engage couples in the counselling process will be introduced.
