Resurrection Weekly Update #7
The Way to Stay in Touch with All Things Res: 10/2 - 10/6
The Principal's Corner
Reflection
"Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to watch you burn..." - John Wesley (Actual quote at the end of this post)
"Students need a champion...." Rita Pierson (This weeks inspirational video)
These two quotes best sum up what we already know about students and how they learn: it is dependent, in many ways, upon connections. They look to us to serve as their mentors, their guides, their inspirations (whether we realize it or not). They also sense, from us, our excitement and our desire to be present, in the moment, and fully participate in their formation. We have such an extraordinary opportunity, therefor, to help these young women come to know and understand God's love for them by our interaction with them.
Are there times where we may not feel great (tired, anxious, occupied, maybe a little flu-like)? Of course! Are there moments when we just do not know what to do next? Yes...However, remember the first quote above!
Are there days in which we just cannot imagine asking the questions in a different way? Are there moments where we do not understand why a student is acting the way that she is? Are there moments in which we want to simply step away? Sure...But remember, our young women need champions! We will NEVER give up on them....We understand the POWER of connection and we INSIST that they become the best that they can be. However, we, as educators, must NEVER give up on ourselves....We must understand the POWER of connections by creating them! We must commit to become the BEST educators possible. You, each of you, are their champions and your joy is abounding!

What I am (still) working on....
This week, we are continuing STREAM integration framework conversations, as well as preparing for conferences and data gathering via classroom drop-ins. Additionally, we are looking at creative ways to continue the UbD conversations. More to come on these exciting topics...I am working on gathering a collection of excellent UBD units to serve as guides for our work. My hope is to get these compiled this week.
THINK big....START small...GO FOR the early win!
Amen,
Mr. P

Technology Updates
Blended Learning and Student Voice
This week we announced that we will begin a series of six Lunch & Learns focused on the topic of Blended Learning and Schoology. One of the benefits of going one-to-one is that it really provides a platform for student voices to be heard and amplified. This can be a powerful learning opportunity and it creates a culture in our classrooms that signifies that no one voice has all of the knowledge and information but rather our collective ability to construct knowledge aids in all of our learning...teacher included. Caitlin Tucker is a high school English teacher who has become a leader in blended learning integration. In her article entitled, "Blend Online and In-class Discussions to Give Every Student a Voice", Caitlin speaks to how she utilizes Schoology's discussion board feature, in addition to in-class discussion to foster powerful student interactions and deeper learning. Please take a few minutes to check it out!
For those of you interested in the upcoming Lunch & Learn series, the first session will be held on Thursday, October 12th during Seminar A & B. I will include a sign-up form in next week's newsletter. SO, bring your lunch, relax and collaborative with other great Resurrection teachers! Have a great week!

What a RES education means to me: Rebecca Milos
Colleagues.....students......dedication....RES Community
When I was first hired at Res, Ms. Maluchinik, in true Maluchnik fashion, gave me a huge smile and hug, and said something to the effect of, “You are going to love our girls!” And she was totally right, of course! For me, Res girls are what make working here so wonderful. They are generally well-behaved, motivated, and kind young women who want to make their own contribution to the world. They are strong and independent and want to go out and break any stereotype that exists for them as women. And, God bless them, they do their homework!
I also love working at a place where I am inspired, daily, by my colleagues’ dedication to their jobs and by the good works that so many Res teachers and administrators do. The Res community is a family that brings out the best in others, and I am proud to be a part of its decades-long tradition of educating young women and helping them to become their best possible selves.
Student Services
Financial Aid night was last Wednesday for Senior parents. October 1st is the start date for filing the FAFSA, so we updated parents on this process.
The counselors attended the Illinois State Articulation conference. This meeting provides counselors with helpful insights about college application admission trends and tuition information.
Sheri and Mary attended the Catholic School Counselor meeting at St Laurence High School. This was hosted by the Archdiocese of Chicago. The focus was on suicide prevention as well as a great opportunity to consult with Catholic school counselors about a variety of topics, including methods to support students dealing with negative social media, academic supports, and interventions for school refusal and anxiety.
Happy Birthday!
