Kids Caring for the Community
Our K-Kids club and their sponsor, Miss Staffeld met with Congressman Visclosky, in the library, to present him with a "Thank You" letter for his service. Then the students explained that all students at Central will be creating Thank-You letters for people that provide a service that impacts students, our school, or the community. Students created their letters while they were with their "buddy" classroom. Students in 5th and 2nd grade prepared letters for our bus drivers, custodians, social workers, nurse, and other school personnel. Students in 4th and 1st grade created letters for policemen and students in 3rd and Kindergarten created letters for firemen.
Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS)
Information regarding PBIS ws sent home this week. Please be sure to discuss it with your child. We currently have over 388 charger tickets and are working hard to reach 2,000 tickets goal for our all school celebration.
Each week students are given Charger Tickets for; being responsible, respectful, safe, supportive and/or receiving the CASS challenge of the week.
This week Teri Parks, one of our fabulous lunch ladies, was picked as staff member of the week for giving Charger Tickets. Congratulations Tari!

PTO NEWS
Read-a-thon
Parents, Read-a-thon is upon us! Keep an eye out for the packets being sent home with your child(ren). This is our biggest fundraiser, in lieu of selling magazines and cookie dough, so share with family, friends, and co-workers!
Walk to School Day
Wednesday, October 9th, is National Walk to School Day! Join us as we celebrate this day by walking with us! We have 3 locations for groups to meet: Washington & Willow, Academy & Chestnut, and the Valparaiso Library at Jefferson. Each location will be supervised by at least one adult. We will start congregating at 8:30, begin walking at 8:40am, and arriving at the school around 8:50am for photos. Bus and car riders are welcome to be dropped at any of the 3 locations. Remember: this is a late start Wednesday!
Book Fair-oh
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school October 15th thru October 22nd. The theme for our Fall 2013 Book Fair is “Reading Oasis: A Cool Place to Discover Hot Books!” We will journey back to Ancient Egypt overflowing with hundreds of book treasures just waiting to be discovered. We are still in need of volunteers to join us as we help students discover the power of reading! If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Amy Howard at aslegers@pnc.edu.
Harvest Festival
Our annual Harvest Festival will be on Friday, October 18th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This is a fun event for the whole family and we will need volunteers to help run it! If you’re interested, please contact Jessica Dekock at dekock@comcast.net.
Landscape Day
Parents, just a little heads up about Landscape Day: this year, we will be working at the school on Saturday, November 2nd. Volunteers will be needed, so pencil it in!
Thanks Again!
Thank You
Thank you, again, to all who helped with the Popcorn Festival parking, including Jennifer Gumz!
