Leadership Message
Blessings and congratulations to our dear friend, Mr. Scott Walker, who has accepted an Assistant Principalship serving the Elk Island Catholic School Community at St. Mary's School in Vegreville for the 2017 - 2018 school year. We are going to miss him tremendously! Mr. Walker has been such a wonderful member of our Fort Saskatchewan Catholic School Community. It certainly has been a true gift having Mr. Walker at St. John XXIII (and all of our Fort Sask Catholic schools) - he will be missed! Blessings to him on his new endeavour!
Congratulations to our Elk Island Catholic School's District Principal and St. John's former principal, Mr. Paul Corrigan, who has won Alberta Teachers' Association Council for School Leadership Distinguished Leadership Award. Mr. Corrigan will be honored at the Edmonton Hyatt this month recognizing his gifts of outstanding leadership. Blessings and congratulations to you, Mr. Corrigan.
It feels like Mr. Smith just arrived at St. John yesterday to cover for Mrs. Melnyk while she was recovering from surgery. This will be his last week with us. Please pop in and give him a thanks and "hi-5" for service to St. John XXIII. I heard he had a real fantastic time with the students and staff. Much gratitude for his service and blessings on his continued retirement.
May blessings,
Mrs. Tracy Melnyk, Principal

Interested in Running for Catholic Trustee?
The ACSTA, together with the Alberta Bishops, will be holding Catholic Trustee information sessions for prospective candidates in each Alberta diocese this May and June. Information sessions will be about 2 hours in length and will include a presentation by ACSTA elected officials, administration and the local bishop.
If you are thinking about becoming a Catholic School Trustee, the information sessions are a great way to learn more about the role of trustee, the uniqueness of the Catholic trustee and the relationship with the local Bishop, as well as answer any questions you may have and point to resources available.
Dates for the events are as follows:
May 11 - Edmonton - St. Brendan School - 7 PM – With Archbishop Smith
May 25 - Fort McMurray - St. Paul’s Parish - 7 PM – With Bishop Paul
June 7 - Grande Prairie - St. Joseph School -7 PM – With Archbishop Petitpas
June 8 - Calgary - Location TBD - 7PM – With Bishop McGrattan
We want to emphasise that the information sessions in no way support a particular candidate or affiliation, and are not being held to provide a means of debate among candidates. This is not a forum for candidates to speak, this is for the education of potential trustees and to explain the process.
Should you have any questions please contact the ACSTA office at 780-484-6209 or email at admin@acsta.ab.ca
