Program of Study Updates
Below you will find links to the revised versions of the approved Statewide Programs of Study framework documents, the Regional Programs of Study at-a-glance document, and the Statewide Programs of Study at-a-glance files are posted to the TEA CTE webpage ((https://tea.texas.gov/academics/college-career-and-military-prep/career-and-technical-education/approved-cte-programs-of-study) The revisions were prompted by an evaluation of the auto-coding system for CTE programs to maintain consistency in reporting for all local education agencies.
The POS frameworks have been updated to include a location on Page 2 (or 3) for the LEA required nondiscrimination statement. Please share this update with your district. TEA is beginning the work to have the POS frameworks translated to Spanish.
February is CTE Month!
What is CTE Month?
Career and Technical Education Month®, or CTE Month®, is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
The following resources are provided by ACTE.
What can I do to celebrate CTE Month?
- Participate in the 2020-2021 CTE Month-NASA HUNCH Student Video Challenge: Advancing Space Exploration through Manufacturing
- Host a school visit and invite members of your local community to learn about your school’s strong CTE programs firsthand
- Engage your policymakers and the media to encourage them to attend events and tell you CTE story, or use social media to do the same
- Work with business and industry leaders to ensure they understand the role CTE plays in readying their future workforce
- Download the ACTE CTE Month logo for use with any print or digital outreach
Required TEA WBL Training Online
If you have teachers teaching any Work Based Learning course, they must complete required training before teaching the course. If you have teachers who will be teaching a WBL course for the 2021-22 school year, now is the time for them to complete the required training.
Here is the TEA Work-Based Learning Online Course Information
Teachers assigned to teach Career Preparation courses must complete the Texas Education Agency approved training as outlined in §231.271. Career Development, Grades 9-12. subsection (e):
- (e)The school district is responsible for ensuring that each teacher assigned to Career Preparation I, Career Preparation II, or Extended Career Preparation, Grades 9-12, has completed appropriate training in state and federal requirements regarding work-based learning and safety.
The TEA Work-Based Learning online course which can be completed to meet this requirement.
In this professional development course, teachers will learn what authentic work-based learning (WBL) is and how to ensure students learn the skills and knowledge appropriate for their career pathway in a safe and appropriate environment through collaborative partnerships with local employers. This course introduces basic laws, rules, and procedures relevant to teaching career and technical education (CTE) courses that involve WBL at the secondary school level in Texas.
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to fundamental concepts with links to additional resources useful to teachers assigned to CTE courses.
This course takes approximately 8 hours to complete. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will earn 8 CPE credits.
Please note the course is self-paced without an assessment or certificate of completion. The agency is working to have a certificate available in the near future. Please maintain an independent record of completion.
Options for documentation of completion may include:
- Saving a screenshot of the final page of the final lesson review (instructions)
- LEA Generated certificate of completion when the course is scheduled and facilitated by the LEA
ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Education Announcement and Updates
New Collision Repair Standards – updated standards for Collision Repair and Refinish Programs have been posted at https://www.aseeducationfoundation.org/resources. They are effective Jan. 1, 2021, but there is a six-month transition period. Programs that have already submitted their applications using the 2018 standards don’t need to change anything. If you are planning to submit an application between now and June 30, 2021, you can use the 2018 or the 2021 standards. All applications submitted after June 30 should use the 2021 standards.
