Yearbook Deadline Extended!
Yearbook Order Form - Deadline March 19
The yearbook ordering deadline has been extended until March 19th! If you were unable to order your student's yearbook, you still have time to do that. Orders must be placed ONLINE ONLY. If your student is in the BVA, and they had their photo taken on picture day back in October, then they will be in the yearbook. Place your order for this year's yearbook if you have not done so already! Please note the FINAL Order Deadline is March 19!
Are Your Ears Ready?
Do assessments or test results really tell you everything about your child? Nope, and I'd love to tell you why as we explore the Distance Learning Playbook together and uncover that your child is much more than a number defined by a test.

Disney Park Hopper Passes
Because we did not hold an auction in May 2020 due to the pandemic, the PTO has Disney Park Hopper passes to sell to the highest bidders. These passes are always a huge money maker for us at our annual auctions. These passes expire on November 24, 2021. We have five sets of 4 passes each to offer to the highest bidders. To bid on one or more sets, use the google form below. Submit your best, top bid by 11:59 pm on March 24. All details are in the description on the form:
Lego Club Week 3:
Challenge #1: Find your favorite stuffed animal and make a Lego replica of it. Then take a photo of your child with both and enter with their name, grade, and teacher in the comments on the PTO Facebook page LEGO post or by email.
Challenge #2: Have your kids create a LEGO replica of a famous building or monument. Then take a photo of your child with the Lego version, the name of the monument or building, their name and teacher and post in the comments on the PTO Facebook page LEGO post or by email.
Week two submissions for Lego club have been great, but fewer. Luckily, this week's Scoop comes out a day early so the kids get a reminder to submit their entries by bed time on Friday. The winner will be drawn on Saturday and posted on Facebook and in the next Scoop. Remember, there is one weekly prize for completing both challenges and one grand prize ($100 Lego gift card) for completing all eight weeks of challenges. All rules are below. Have fun!
We can't do the PTO LEGO club in person this year but we can still have a Spencer LEGO club online (Open to in-person and BVA kids).
Here is how it will work:
The kids have until the next set of challenges goes up to post their entry (Two per week - 8 Weeks of posts).
Post their entry in the COMMENTS of the challenge post on the PTO Facebook page or email cornellem@gmail.com.
Each week anyone who does both challenges will enter to win one small weekly prize.
If your child completes ALL the challenges all eight weeks they'll be entered to win a raffle at the end of virtual LEGO club for a $100 gift card to the LEGO store.
In order to include EVERYONE at Spencer challenges will post each Friday on the PTO page and in the Spencer Scoop each week.March BVA Pick up
The next BVA pickup day is March 17, from 11am-1pm. It will be held outside, if the weather is nice, or in the multi-purpose room if it is wet. If you have participated in the Shamrock Search (and submitted answers), your prize will be with the rest of your pickup items. If your student is transitioning back face to face, the PTO will deliver yours items to the classroom.
Save the Date - Mod Pizza Night
The PTO will host a Mod Pizza fundraiser on April 14 from 12-8 pm. We appreciate your support! Ordering details to follow.
March Family Fun: Shamrock Search - A Spencer Family Scavenger Hunt
PLEASE be sure to complete the google form once you find the yard stakes. Do not return your shamrock search flyer. That is just for you to take with you on your hunt so you have all of the street names with you. There was one flyer returned to the office with the house numbers filled out, but without a name. If that was yours, please email kristiehopka@gmail.com so she can get your prize sent home. The PTO is holding a Shamrock Search - A Spencer Family Scavenger Hunt from March 1- March 21. See the flyer attached in this Scoop for the list of the 12 streets you will drive down to look for the shamrock or leprechaun yard stake (see the picture of the stakes you are looking for on the flyer). When you spot one, record the house number where you found it. Then you will submit a google form with the 12 house numbers and win a prize from the PTO. Since March is reading month, the prizes are books! The google form to submit will be on the PTO Facebook page, on our website and here is the link:

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Counselor Corner!
Here we are in March, ready for some sunshine and warmer weather! This month, we will be visiting classrooms for some Read Alouds and social-emotional stories for Reading Month. We are also focusing on the needs of students and classrooms and providing additional support with student groups and individual support. Our goal for this month is to more directly meet the needs of our students during this stretch of the year when we all need a little more TLC.
Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

COVID-19 Self-Reporting
COVID Communication
In an attempt to NOT over-communicate to all families at Spencer with emails regarding positive Covid 19 cases, BAS is no longer sending community-wide emails to all parents and guardians for each case, at each building.
We ARE, of course, still sending emails to ALL students, parents, and staff facing mandated quarantines and ALL parents, students, and staff who have been in classrooms where a positive Covid 19 case has been reported.
Families of those directly impacted receive direct communication regarding any new cases. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please feel free to visit our district's COVID-19 transparency site at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/8729"
In addition, the Livingston County Health Department is no longer receiving the reports of positive COVID-19 tests of adults between the ages of 19-64 from the testing sites. For this reason, they are requesting that our parent/guardians self-report if they have tested positive or exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 to allow for the necessary contact-tracing within our school. You will find the link to the to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form below...
