A Message From your Principals
Dear Families~
We hope you have all had a positive start to the school year. Staff have focused on getting to know their students and building community and routines in their classrooms. It is our goal for every student to feel known, valued, and connected to at least one caring adult at Beaver Acres (but hopefully a LOT MORE than one!).
Conferences are just around the corner! Please be on the look out for an opportunity to sign up online to meet with your child's or children's teacher(s) on OCTOBER 17th or 18th. If you are interested in additional staff members joining your conference such as an administrator, ELD teacher, or specialist, please let your child's teacher know. Conferences are an important time to share your child's strengths, ways to best support your child's learning, and/or any concerns you may have, and to set goals together for the year. Your support and partnership is very important to us and greatly appreciated.
There are two other exciting things happening this month:
- October 4th- Schoolwide Title 1 Family Night followed by a PTO Meeting. (A separate invitation and RSVP to follow.)
- October 9th- Jog-a-thon Fundraiser called THE BEAVER DASH! Your child should have come home with a pledge envelope earlier this week. The money raised helps pay for field trips and classroom enrichment. Even the smallest donation adds up quickly!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Geale & Mrs. Rosenquist
¡Esperamos verte pronto!
Sinceramente,
La Sra. Geale y la Sra. Rosenquist

Welcome to the new school year!
We are excited to share with you some updates to the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) at Beaver Acres. PBIS is the framework we use to guide and support behavioral and academic instruction. It is a school wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and academic learning goals.
At Beaver Acres, we use three consistent school expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. These expectations are taught and retaught throughout the year. To reinforce the expectations, students will be earning individual and classroom “Beaver Track” tickets. Ask your child about ways they can earn Beaver Tracks by being safe, respectful and responsible at school.
We are also introducing Golden Awards this year. Golden Awards are presented by our specialists weekly to the class that best demonstrates our school expectations. The class that receives the Golden Award proudly displays it outside their classroom door for the week. As you visit our school, be on the lookout for the Golden Shoes, Golden Recorders, Golden Computer Mice, Golden Books and the Golden Kelso.

Beaverton School-Based Health Center
We at the Beaverton School Based Health Center want to WELCOME you BACK TO SCHOOL!
Your Beaverton School Based Health Center (SBHC) is open for the 2018-2019 school year. We specialize in pediatric primary care, child and adolescent counseling, as well as preventative pediatric dentistry and we serve all students and employees in the Beaverton School District. Please recommend sending your students and their families to us as an access point for medical care, counseling and preventative dentistry.
The SBHC can bill most private health insurance plans and may collect a co-pay at the time of your visit. Oregon Health Plan (OHP) is also accepted, which does not require a co-pay. Contact the SBHC to see if we can take your insurance.
In primary care we are an excellent resource for well child checks, sport physicals, immunizations, and flu shots. We have general counseling on an ongoing basis available for individuals and families. Dentistry provides sealants, cleanings and referrals. Your school based health center is an excellent place to begin to address your student’s medical, mental health and dental needs.
We look forward to working together throughout the school year and beyond to implement access to well child care, counseling and preventative dentistry.
Please see linked flyers (next column) with a little more information about your SBHC providers, as well as clinic hours and location.
If you have any questions please contact Paje Stelling, MA, SBHC Relations Manager, Virginia Garcia School Based Centers.

BIRTHDAYS AT SCHOOL
We LOVE birthdays, but interruptions and excess sugar can disrupt the school day. The Beaverton School District Wellness Policy requires schools to be healthy in nature. It is the intent of the Board that District Schools take a proactive approach to provide students with nutritious food choices. For these reasons, birthdays may not be celebrated at school with food, including treats such as cupcakes or cookies, or gifts such as balloons, flowers, stuffed animals, etc. We will continue to acknowledge student and staff birthdays with an announcement over the school intercom and a birthday ribbon. In addition, please do not send invitations to birthday parties to school for distribution (even if the whole class is invited). This often leads to hurt feelings and disruption. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. It is greatly appreciated.
