RIVERSIDE ELEMENTARY
JUNE 2022
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Husky Family,
During the summer, I always enjoy spending more time with family and friends, catching up on a few novels I've been meaning to read, as well as taking the time to rest and reflect. As I finalize ideas and make plans for the upcoming school year, it's important for me to reflect on the past year and make adaptations that are needed to continue to support students' academic and social-emotional success and well-being.
As part of our goal to provide more SEL support for students, we will have a RESET classroom where students can go for a brief time if they need help resetting their emotions. If they begin to feel stressed or distracted to the point where they may need a break, this will be a safe and structured place where they can go to de-stress and learn ways to self-regulate.
As part of our goal to provide more social-emotional support for staff, we will also have a space at Riverside where staff members can go during a break to de-stress and have a quiet space.
We are also excited to offer a Transitional Kindergarten class beginning this coming fall! If you would like more information about our TK program and if this would be a good fit for your early learner, please contact the Riverside Elementary office.
Have a wonderful summer break!
Upcoming Events: More information will be coming in August from the school and classroom teachers.
PK-5 Early Entrance Conferences - September 6 and 7
PK-5 First day of Class - September 8

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Good attendance in school makes a difference! When students miss school, they miss important opportunities to learn and grow. Attendance is a key indicator of a student's academic success and it begins as early as preschool and Kindergarten! It is also important to arrive at school on time so students can have a positive start to the day and not miss out on their teachers' instruction.

Breakfast is served from 7:40-8:10 a.m., and the doors will be open at 7:40 a.m. It is not necessary to bring students before 8:00 a.m. unless they are riding a transfer bus to Lakefield or eating breakfast.
To avoid any accidents, we ask that parents/guardians walk their students to and from their vehicles when crossing the street or parking lots.
We understand that Kindergarten can be a big adjustment for students and sometimes parents. To help students become more independent, we ask that parents give hugs and reassure them as they drop students off at either Door 2 by the main office (upper parking lot), or Door 3 (lower parking lot by the cafeteria) in the morning when arriving to school. Our Riverside staff will be waiting as students enter the building to welcome and guide students to their classrooms. To help us maintain a safe learning environment, all parents, volunteers, or visitors must sign in at the office.
Afternoon Pick Up: Preschool will be dismissed at the Discovery Place Door. Kindergarten through third grade students can be picked up outside Door 3 by the lower parking lot. Older siblings will be dismissed to pick up their younger siblings in their classrooms, and take them to designated area.
To avoid traffic congestion, there is available parking at Salem Lutheran Church parking lot, on Park street, or the upper or lower parking lots. There will be new parking spaces in the lower lot, however space is limited. There is no parking or driving on the playground.
*If you are picking up or dropping off your child during school hours, you will need to sign them out in the main office (door 2) Students are not allowed to leave the building until a parent/guardian signs them out.
