Galena Park I.S.D. Employee Newsletter
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
May 4, 2020
Dear Galena Park I.S.D. Staff,
May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week, and I stand in awe and deep appreciation of the way you have adjusted to our new way of educating students, and the support you have extended to them and their families as we all learn new ways of living our daily lives. It seems none of our routines are the same--even grocery shopping is different--but you all are the constants in our students' ever-changing lives, and I thank you for being such great SUPER-HEROES through it all. Kudos to you, and again, THANK YOU.
It is our tradition in Galena Park I.S.D. to honor our school district employees this week with a token of appreciation, and this year is no different; when it is safe to return to your work locations, each of you will receive a token of my and the Board of Trustees' appreciation for the work you do. Please know, you are deeply appreciated.
If you have been following the news, you are aware of Governor Abbott's plan to reopen Texas in phases. We remain cautiously optimistic about reopening, and will continue to follow the orders and advice from our local, state, and federal officials, as well as the Centers for Disease Control, regarding the reopening of our schools. In the meantime, I urge you all to continue to practice the safety protocols in place, including wearing facemasks when you go out in public, practicing social distancing, and washing your hands frequently.
We continue to learn new ways to honor our traditions in the most respectful manner possible, and to that end, we have been busy planning virtual events for the GPISD Education Foundation's annual Dazzling Diamonds program, our annual Service Awards program, and of course, our high school graduations. We pledge to honor, respect and celebrate the achievements of our students and staff, to the fullest extent possible. Please check the District website for links to these important events, as well as to keep yourselves informed of other District news.
I miss you all, and think of you often. You and your loved ones remain in my thoughts and daily prayers. Please remember to take care of yourselves, as you take care of our students.
Be Blessed,
Angi Williams, Ed.D.

Self-Care Tips
- Laugh. We know that it changes the biochemistry of our brains and boosts immunity. We all need that right now.
- Learn something new, especially something artistic. Don’t expect to do it well; just let it take you to a different head space.
- Get enough sleep. Try to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. Don’t stay up too late.
Dazzling Diamonds and Beyond the Book Awards
To date, over 550 Galena Park I.S.D. employees have been honored at the Galena Park I.S.D. Education Foundation’s Annual Dazzling Diamonds Gala, which honors the top five percent of graduating seniors from CTE Early College High School, Galena Park High School and North Shore Senior High School and their chosen, distinguished educator.
The Education Foundation also seeks to acknowledge employees through the Beyond the Book award. This award is given to employees who go above and beyond their core duties to teach our children and support the delivery of education. We believe those involved in the education process should strive to support our vision of 'Excellence in All, for All, by All' in service to district stakeholders including students, fellow employees and taxpayers.
The Galena Park I.S.D. Education Foundation would like to congratulate the 2019-2020 Beyond the Book Award winners, who will each receive an engraved crystal book from the Foundation.
