Finding Balance and Staying Strong
Student Services and Counselors encourage everyone to stay focused on finishing the year strong. Ways that can help you and finding balance are:
Writing In a journal or notebook - Something you can control
- Allow yourself to worry, write it down in a notebook and then put it away.
-Once you have written it down, let it go.
-Try drawing two circles -a circle of control and a circle of no control. fill one of them in with things in your life that you have control over (like doing chores or homework)
The other circle would be no control ( like the weather) One circle you have influence over and the other, no matter how much you worry, you can‘t doing nothing about and have no influence.
Finding balance between your on-line and off-line life
-Set aside sometime regularly to do something off-line like reading a book or being outside.
-Continue to spend time with family and friends.
-Compliment someone in person and watch their face light up.
-listen to that one song and repeat
-Signs you made need a break
. You’re having fewer face to face with family and friends
. It’s preventing you from getting other things done in the off-line world
. You’re finding it hard to think about and enjoy other things in the off-line world
. You’re finding it overwhelming
What can I do to help switch off?
. Switch on the “Do Not Disturb Mode” So you won’t receive notifications from apps and texts.
. Use an app that helps you monitor and manage your phone use.
.Put your phone or mobile device in another room.
.Try switching off your computer, Phone and any other devices so your are not tempted.
While we are physically isolated, it’s important than ever for us to feel socially connected, try and reach out to friends and family to talk and also be there to listen to others. Make eye contact and put away your phone if you are talking face to face. Showing you care builds trust to open up. When we focus on the other person try not to jump in and fill a silence. You can say back what you think, it is they are wanting you to hear. Resit putting you your own interpretation on it.
Don’t give up and keep trying!
