Husky Happenings

Week of January 23, 2023

Message from Mrs. Sheppard

Dear Graham Families,

I hope you have enjoyed the weekend! The snow was so pretty on Sunday. I hear there will be some more headed our way this week! With snow also comes snowballs. Please remind your child about leaving the snow on the ground when they are at school. We will do the same!

This week in the Positivity Project we are focusing on Perseverance. Perseverance is all about not giving up what you started even when things are difficult. Think about a time when you have had to persevere through something and share that with your child. Please read this letter all about this character trait so that you can discuss it with your child.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Lunch Menu

Extra slices of Pizza are $2.00 each. You can send the money in any time throughout the week and Ms. Pam will add it to their account.

There are some days when the menu could possibly change due to food items not being available. We will let the students know if there are changes as soon as we find out.

Beable Winter Break Contest Winners

Students in grade 2-5 were able to participate in a BEABLE contest over winter break where they had to do some reading about special interests. The contest ran from December 19th-January 9th and the next one will be hosted over the mid-winter break in February. We are so proud of our students for their efforts! They were given a Slurpee from Mrs. Sheppard on Friday and they will receive a prize from the district at the beginning of February!!!

Girls on the Run is back at Graham!!! 3rd-5th grade girls may sign up.

Hello Husky Families!

We will be having a Girls on the Run team here at Graham this Spring. Registration is open and additional information can be found at the link below.

https://www.gotrdetroit.org/register-your-girl/

Girls on the Run is a positive program for girls in grades 3rd - 5th and we meet twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday, from 4 - 5:30 pm. We will talk and learn about topics such as positive self-talk, positive body image, peer pressure, etc. A fraction of each session we will work on various physical activities. At the end of the program, we will gather with other teams in our region, on Sunday, May 21st, and participate in a 5k. Girls and families can run, walk, hop, jump, etc. throughout the event. It is a big celebration of the amazing girls and their accomplishments! I have coached for approximately 10 years and it is incredibly rewarding for the girls and coaches alike.

You will see a fee for the program, however, there are several scholarships that are awarded. If cost is the only factor, please reach out to me and we will figure something out. No one is turned away due to financial reasons. I am looking forward to an amazing season and I hope to see many of our girls on the team!
