Nueva Visión Spanish Immersion
September Program update
Las Noticias
Immersion pedagogy research states the target language of instruction should be spoken only in the classroom. This helps students associate the Spanish language with the classroom, their teachers, and other adults who enter the room. In cases of emergencies,(such as fire drills, misbehavior involving unpeaceful hands, etc.) a teacher might switch to English in these first few weeks to make sure the students feel safe and respected. (ie. why bus safety will be taught outside of the classroom by an English-speaking teacher, lock-down procedures explained in English, etc.)
Classroom Assistants & Teachers
We are so excited to welcome Sra. Marizela Stuezcher & Srta. Diana Mena to the Nueva Visión team! Both women are amazing assistants who are sharing songs, culture, and the Spanish language with your children!
Sra. Stuecher will be sharing her time between the two classrooms as an assistant every morning, assisting with literacy and math instruction. Sra. Stuezcher is a native Spanish speaker originally from Ecuador and here in Duluth with her family. In Ecuador she was a preschool teacher for 18 + years!
Srta. Diana Mena is a student at the College of St. Scholastica, double-majoring in Social Work and Peace & Justice, wanting to be an advocate for oppressed communities. She is volunteering with a work study program and will be assisting with literacy instruction. Diana was raised in a Spanish-speaking household and spent summers in the Dominican Republic with her grandmother. She is very excited to be in the classroom with Sra. Sheldon three mornings a week!
Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for a few volunteers to help make math games for the Spanish Kinder classes & stamp books in the next few weeks. If you are interested, please send me an email with a day and time that works best for you. ¡Gracias!
Harvest of Literature
On October 31st, students will be allowed to dress-up as their favorite book character for a Lowell event called Harvest of Literature. Students can bring in & share about a favorite book while in the media center this day if interested. Look for more information to come if you are wanting to volunteer to read a book (in costume of course!) with your child's class.
