HWJH Back To School Information
I am thrilled that we will welcome our students back to the busy hallways of HWJH in just a few short weeks. It is our goal to ensure that every student at HWJH feels welcome, safe, and connected to our Panther family. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I would like to welcome our students and families back to HWJH with a few updates.
Please take a moment to read the HWJH specific back to school related information below. Serving as the Principal of Highland West is one of my greatest joys. Feel free to contact me at anytime. I am always happy to help! laurarousseau@mooreschools.com; 405-735-4600

Schedule Pick Up
All students are welcome to pick up their schedules on August 4th from 8:00 - 11:00 AM or 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
Students must bring a copy of a current utility bill (gas, water, electric, lease) to pick up their schedule. Online Registration (OLR) must be completed to pick up a schedule.
We will also have supply kits and school shirts for sale!

All students (regardless of grade) will need the same school supplies. These school supplies will also be carried in the student's backpack each day.

HWJH offers a student store in the new gym concession stand during lunch. This option is available to all students and cash is the only tender accepted. Students can purchase items such as Taco Bueno, pizza, chips, nachos, YoDots, and snacks during their lunch period. Items range from 50 cents to $3.00 a piece. Most items are $1.00 - $1.50
The first day of school will be Taco Bueno! We will have party tacos and soft taco roll ups as well as the chips, nachos, snacks, YoDots etc. for students to purchase.
PTSA
**Our PTSA hosts our spring and fall dances. We would love to bring these fun events back. The students love them!
New (and Returning) Student Orientation
We went through this process the past few years and it has been a HUGE success! We will make sure each student is comfortable and ready to take on each new hour as we tackle the first day together!
Student Chromebooks
Returning Students: During schedule pick up, all students should bring their CHARGED Chromebook to complete a quick check with our HWJH Site Tech. Mr. Dickinson will check each device to make sure it is ready to go for the first day of school. If your device has sustained any damage over the summer or has been lost, please ensure that information is shared with Mr. Dickinson during schedule pick up.
**Students who delay reporting of Chromebook issues could see a longer turnaround time for repairs.
Lost Chargers: New chargers can be purchased at https://www.dell.com/en-us/member/lp/mooreschools or families can go to the MPS Technology Center to purchase in person. The MPS Technology is located at 1504 SE 4th Street in Moore.
New Students: New student devices will be distributed as soon as possible when school starts.

Yearbooks
We will have a welcome back sign at schedule pick up. Take lots of pictures with your friends and email them to lindsaydennis@mooreschools.com for a chance to have them included in the yearbook!
Tdap Vaccinations
All students attending 7th grade in Oklahoma must update their vaccination records with their school prior to beginning school in August.
Oklahoma State law states:
“For school enrollment, a parent or guardian shall provide one of the following:
1) A current, up to date vaccination record; or
2) A completed and signed exemption form.
The Tdap vaccination is a booster from the DTP vaccination that students receive prior to Kindergarten.
Students can bring an updated vaccination record to schedule pick up or you can email a copy to our school nurse, Kristin Clement. Her information is at the bottom!
If you do not want your child to have this immunization, an exemption is required. This form may be obtained from the nurse at Highland West Junior High. You may contact Kristen Clement for more information.
Final Notes
Students who ride a bus can find bus information here: https://www.mooreschools.com/Page/40198
Student drop off/pick up is on the north side of the school. The front loop is strictly for school busses. A bike rack is located in the back of the school on the north west side.
When students arrive at school, they are free to enter the cafeteria for breakfast or head to the back of the school by the gyms. Staff will be there to direct students to an appropriate location until the bell rings.
