Resources for Integrating Technology into Instruction
November 2, 2017
Student-Centered Learning
Jess and I have compiled the ideas below into three elements of student-centered learning- student voice, student choice, and student paced instruction. As usual, we hope you'll find them helpful and we encourage you to book us to talk more about how these strategies fit into your practice and instructional goals.
Student voice
The 1:37 min video below will help you get started.
Student voice
Check out FlipGrid's site to learn more, and to explore public FlipGrids from other users. Have an idea on how to use FlipGrid? Add an idea to our North/South grid, Team Work Makes the Dream Work!
Student choice
Use a Google Slides presentation to create your next choice board. By linking other sites and slides to your first (home) slide you can create an interactive “create your own adventure”-like learning experience! We've had a lot of success using slides this way for our 1:1 learning PD. In classroom, the same could be done to create a personalized learning experience for students.
Check out the 34 second video below to learn how to link slides and other sites in Google Slides. If you want to see an example, check out our 1:1 learning slides from the Oct 19th Technology Playground sessions.
Student paced
Create a HyperDoc with a Google Doc that takes your students through an entire learning cycle (the hook, the pre-assessment, learning, formative assessment, application, reflection, etc.) at their own pace. Engage learners through each stage with links to videos, Google Form surveys, Google Classroom discussions, Flip Grid reflections, and more!
Students move through the HyperDoc at their own pace and can use a variety of digital tools to learn content and demonstrate what they know...all while using 21st century skills!
To create a HyperDoc, you don't have to start from scratch. Check out the HyperDoc templates available here: https://hyperdocs.co/templates
For more information, check out the HyperDocs site, read the book, or book me! I'm here to support you!
