News from Mrs. Drudy's Class
We exist so children can excel.
Fond, Fond Farewells
"Goodbye, goodbye.
It's time to go.
Take care, take care,
Because we love you so."
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Where did the school year go? Saying goodbye to the children I've come to love gets harder every year. It's equally hard for them to say goodbye to each other. Over the last 180 days they've become "family."
As your child gets ready for 3rd grade this summer, (s)he can rest assure that it will be a wonderful upcoming school year. Students can look forward to meeting new friends, meeting Mrs. Townsend or Mrs. Ross as his or her new teacher, utilizing the student laptops in the classroom in new and exciting ways, and going on several exciting study trips.
As your child moves from 2nd to 3rd grade, there are some very important things that you can do this summer to help him or her succeed. Make sure that your child is reading each night for at least 20 minutes. Practice math facts (including both subtraction and addition) so that (s)he will be ready for 3rd-grade math. Encourage your child to write often. If you go on vacation or take day trips this summer, then encourage your child to take a journal along and write/illustrate a little bit about the trip each day. This is a great way for children to get their thoughts organized onto paper. All of these things will help your child lead to big successes the next school year.
It has been my absolute pleasure getting to know your child this school year. Having your parental support was an essential part of the year, and I loved sharing the journey with you. I would like to personally thank each and every one of the parents, grandparents, and other family members who have taken the time to volunteer here at LES this year. Your dedication and support has not gone unnoticed. Thanks again for a wonderful year. Have a fantastic summer!
Educationally yours,
Mrs. Drudy
Summer Reading
Looking for ways for your child to avoid the "summer slide"? Click here for reading passages that include comprehension questions that correspond with the reading. Also, please don't forget to participate in the Union County Public Library's Summer Reading Program.
Also, the corporation is adopting a new reading series for our students for the next upcoming year. With that said, your child has been gifted the "leftovers." These will make great rainy day fun for students as they play school with siblings, cousins, or neighbors.
