Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
December 16, 2018
Completing the week before exams is always challenging not only for students, but staff as well, as it is so close to Christmas break. Thank you for keeping our students so focused on the work still ahead of them.
Hopefully you have been collecting those last minute work submissions from your students and wrapping up grading for second quarter. It is really important that the students and parents are very clear of where their students stand prior to the portal closing and going into semester exams. Thank you for ensuring that your gradebook is up to date.
This past Tuesday we had our second quarter Principal's Coffee. Although there were only about 6 parents in attendance, their questions and ideas shared were addressed and welcomed! Our parents have a passion for the school, its impact on their students, and the future of Marian. Thanks to Father Twenty and Mr. DeFrisco for joining me, showing that we are a true team focused on the continuous improvement of our beloved Marian Central Catholic.
What a wonderful all school mass we had on Wednesday, in celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Thank you, Father Twenty, for sharing the story and helping us understand how to apply the lessons God gives us to our lives.
Finally, what a great way to end the week... celebrating the holiday season together with our colleagues with a delicious breakfast Friday morning! A special thank you to our wonderful office staff for organizing the breakfast. Not only did our staff have unique Christmas sweaters, but it was fun to see the wide variety of sweaters and shirts on our students throughout the day!
In addition, a big thanks to all of the students and staff that donated to the Student Council Christmas Drive for the needy families in our area. While in Mrs. Cetera's room at the end of day Friday I saw quite a pile of presents that will be delivered! And Friday night's boys' basketball game also reflected the giving season as they facilitated a collection of coats and other outerwear for the Salvation Army. Our Marian Family certainly has a big heart!
Looking ahead...
Happy third week of Advent! As we enter this week, let's keep prayer in the forefront...
Dear Jesus, help us focus on you during this busy season. May we stay aware of the joy you bring into our lives. We want to find you in the everyday moments and come with hearts of gratitude to your manger on Christmas. Amen.
Since this is the season of giving... don't forget that Secret Santa week is now upon us! If you signed up to participate, don't forget to provide a little gift each day, revealing yourself on the last day...
A final reminder... please review the general parameters for Exam Procedures, including the necessary forms to prepare for grade meetings.
Please also note these important dates...
- Study Guides & Exams to Novy, Dept. Head, & Mr. Taylor ahead of exam day (if you did not already submit)
- Parent Portal shuts down by 8:00 am Wednesday, Dec. 19.
- If you forgot... please sign up here to reserve your grade meeting slot.
- We are anticipating that the Parent Portal will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019.
Some other things to remember during exam days...
- Taking accurate attendance within the first 5 minutes of class is imperative
- Students assigned to study halls will not need to report to their assigned room and instead, may choose to study in the cafeteria for quiet during those periods. If the period is the first or last of the testing day, students may opt for late arrival or early dismissal, but must check in at the office.
- If you supervise a homeroom class, we need you to be in the cafeteria during your period to supervise any students who may choose to be in there studying and preparing for their next exam.
Finally, once exams are completed on Friday morning, grade meetings will begin quickly. Please prepare completely so the meetings go quickly and smoothly. This includes...
- providing at least one comment for each grade you provide
- clicking on "submit" for every course
- making sure that in your RC View on the Semester 1 exam column, there is no red slash indicating that the grade is invisible to the parent/student in their portal
- having all of your class grade reports printed out and checking to make sure that if there are students who failed two of the three grades (Q1, Q2, exam) that their final grade is an F. If it is not, you must force the F in the RC view
- coming to the meeting with all of the forms filled out that apply to you (Failure sheet... for semester only, missed exams, and medical exemptions... for PE only)
The more prepared you are for the grade meeting, the quicker we can get you through.
If you are ready before your time slot, notify the office and if we are ahead of schedule, we will try to fit you in earlier!
Prayers for a smooth week of both preparation and administration of semester exams!
Have a wonderful week... and a blessed Christmas break to follow! You deserve it!
