SOL TESTING CONTINUES NEXT WEEK!!
Closing Out the School Year with JOY!!
#StudentEngagement #JOY
These last few weeks can be challenging if not well planned for each day. As you are aware, high-quality teaching and learning is expected to be continued in each classroom through the last school day. In the past, Department of School Leadership have received calls from parents expressing concern that students “watch videos” or “just play” the days after testing is completed. These final school days should be productive learning days for students. Students are looking to you to draw closure to another successful year in a way that causes them to appreciate all that they have learned this year. Thank you for ensuring students are engaged in meaningful, relevant learning opportunities through June 17, 2016.

News from the Learning Commons
Cable TV Upgrade – Important Changes
Our AV Technician completed the building’s upgrade with Cox Cable this past week. The upgrade does come with restrictions mandated by the school division. We only receive channels that have been approved by the school division—those deemed to have broadcast content of educational value. The channels available by default in your classroom are very limited with this upgrade. Our default channel in the building is WHRO, the local PBS station. So, if you turn on the television signal in your room to a channel other than 21 (Morning Announcements) or 20 (Closed Circuit Videos), you will only be able to tune in WHRO (channel 15).
If you need to show a live broadcast television program for instructional purposes on a different channel, you must contact the Learning Commons staff to set that channel up for you to view at that time. These changes come with the reality that more instructional content is viewed through the Internet (streaming) and very little through live cable television. The purpose of the cable television service is for instruction. Please understand that staff will no longer be able to select a favorite channel to watch favorite television programs in the school building at any time.
SOL Testing Days & Learning Commons Hours
Please remember that the Learning Commons is closed during SOL Testing. If you need teaching materials from the Learning Commons, please send us an e-mail and we can get those items for you. You can also visit us before school, after school, or when we open after testing during the day. Thank you! (Pam and Michelle, Library Staff)
Staff – Items Checked Out
Please check your classroom for books and videos that you have checked out and no longer need. Return those to the Learning Commons as your schedule allows. If you want to see a listing of items checked out to your account, open Destiny, login with your user name and password using the login button (top right). Click on the My Info tab to see items checked out to you.
