HIGH SCHOOL
WINTER IS HERE AND THINGS ARE HOPPING AT PTHS
Winter may be here, but the cold weather is not stopping Pine Tree High School from seeing a flurry of activities.
Congratulations to the Senior Hall of Fame! Keegan Klepper, Joseph Cordova, Marshall Daugbjerg, Joseph Fisher, Octavio Jacquez, Cody Janner, Hercules Tarver, Lukas Branson, Dallas Dixon and Joseph Garcia, Meredith Fisher, Riley Seidel, Abby Short, Chloe Chandler, Angelina Pruitt, Ja’Kerra Horne, Krishna Lara Garcia, Cambrie Salser and Erin Brogan.
Senior Superlatives will also be released soon. This is yet another step for our students as they get ready to graduate. Formals are all the rage right now. Band formal will be February 5, followed by Cheer Buc on February 12. Choir formal is scheduled for February 26 and Prom is set for April 2.
Underclassmen are in the middle of finalizing classes for next year. Students are meeting with counselors and discussing their graduation plan and what courses they need to take to meet that goal. Students are busy looking at a host of classes for next year.
Testing is just around the corner, so core classes are busy doing the necessary work to keep students ready to take those exams.
Band and choir are practicing for competitions as is welding and several other groups. Competitions will be plentiful between now and April, including the UIL Academic team which is preparing to go to Hallsville in a couple of weeks.
Angelina Pruitt will represent Pine Tree in state choir competition, while a host of band students are working to make state in solo and ensemble meets. Pine Tree is always well represented by band students, so instructors are excited for the students with which they are working.
Winter Guard will debut its competition piece on January 28 in the direction of Jared Cronk. They have been working very hard to get ready, so take the time to go watch them if possible.
In sports, basketball, soccer, powerlifting, baseball, tennis, golf, softball and track are all now working either in season or getting ready to begin seasons. It will be a very busy spring here at Pine Tree.
As you can see, life is never slow and never boring here at Pine Tree High School. We are getting ready for additional Buc the Bully activities as well as the Pine Tree Expedition 2022 which will be held on February 17 at Maude Cobb Activity Center.
We are Gung Ho, ALL IN and ready to rock and roll at Pine Tree High.

PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
Art Club
Our very own Parkway Picasso’s are hard at work mixing colors. Mrs. Scaggs’s Art Club is having a blast exploring color mixing and painting this week. The Art Club students are mixing the colors to create a background for their red winter cardinals.
Kernel Writing
The Gifted and Talented students at Parkway are starting to work on writing in a specific way. They are starting with kernel writing. Kernel writing is declarative sentences that will be used in making more elaborate, detailed sentences. As more elaborate sentences are added to help clarify the initial declarative statements an essay is created.
As students add different writing elements to their initial kernel writing, they will build a very detailed expository essay. They are already starting to label components within their writing such as central idea, supporting details, conclusion, and show don’t tell. Those GT students are definitely showing their hard work. Thank you Ms. Wyman, for going above and beyond for your students. They are doing a great job!
Clay Animals
Mrs. Graves' 1st grade class worked hard on researching certain habitats for animals. Each student researched certain animals in their natural habitat. After completing their research, each student made clay animals for their habitats that they built.
BIRCH ELEMENTARY
Accelerated Reader Parties
This week, four dedicated classes celebrated their Accelerated Reader accomplishments with a game party in the library. Each of these classes earned the most AR points in their grade level for the second nine weeks. Congratulations to Mr. Sauceda's , Ms. Gaston's , Mrs. Keiss' and Ms. B. Smith's classes!
AR Store
This week our students had the opportunity to shop at the United Way Accelerated Reader store held in the Birch First library. Thanks to the generous donation of our Greater Longview United Way, the students had the experience of shopping for prizes using the Accelerated Reader points they earned during the first semester. Several students set reading goals to earn a higher amount of points by May and chose to save their points to shop at the May store for a larger prize. We are very proud of our students' dedication to reading!
Silent Auction
Several members of our Pine Tree community aided in our efforts to raise funds for our campus through a silent auction held in recent months. We were able to raise over $1,200 that will directly benefit our students and staff with events such as field trips and also help us fund t-shirts for all.
UIL
Our Birch First UIL academic team has been hard at work practicing for their upcoming meet on January 28th. Many of our staff members work with these students tirelessly, encouraging and supporting them for their efforts. We hope to bring home a 4th championship trophy that surpasses the previous trophies in size. At Birch, we have built a winning culture that we believe our students will carry with them throughout their lives.
Hard Work and Respect= Success!
PACE
Pine Tree PACE Alternative Campus holds R³ sessions twice a week. The purpose of these small group sessions is the intentional empowering of our students to have a greater capacity of Grit.
Grit is passion and perseverance for long-term and meaningful goals. It is the ability to persist in something you feel passionate about and persevere when you face obstacles. This kind of passion is not about intense emotions. It's about having direction and commitment; being Resilient, Relational, and Resourceful.
ExCEL
ExCEL welcomed new students for this second semester. Principal, Caci Brinkley, has been busy conducting interviews for potential new students to enter the program.
At the beginning of the second semester, ExCEL welcomed 12 new students! These students came from various places and came to ExCEL for various reasons. Some came directly from the main campus while others came from doing other online programs at home or from other school districts. The great teachers at ExCEL are working hard to make sure they succeed.
This month the ExCEL campus would also like to acknowledge and congratulate their second graduate for the 2021-2022 school year, Tyaunna Williams. Tyaunna came to ExCEL her junior year at the start of the second semester. She wanted to graduate early so she could start college earlier and begin her career.
She would like to become a fashion model. Her other interests include drawing and she took Art I and Art II while at the high school.
A fellow student described her as someone who is always nice, caring and has a quiet nature. Teacher Jennifer Wilbur says she is an independent worker who has determination to succeed. Lead teacher Brittney Jones describes her as a fashionista who could really rock an afro!
We wish her well in her endeavors and who knows we might just see her on the cover of Vogue magazine one day!
JUNIOR HIGH
PTJH is warming up despite the cold weather!
This week, our Pirates are focusing on kindness by participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. Each day brought a new goal: greeting with kindness, random acts of kindness, showing appreciation, being the “I” in kind, and spreading kindness like confetti!
The Math Science team hosted a competition on January 22, where our Pirates won first place and captured 30 individual medals! Mrs. Randall led the squad to victory by more than 1,000 points over their nearest rivals.
The Lady Pirate basketball teams participated in a tournament at Spring Hill. The 7th grade A team won first place in their division, and the 8th grade A team captured the consolation championship in their bracket! The 7th and 8th grade teams have continued their successful seasons with battles against Texas Middle School and Hallsville Junior High.
The UIL academic team is finishing up preparation for the district academic championship to be held on February 5th at Pine Tree Junior High. We are excited to see their hard work pay off with an incredible showing at the district meet!
