A Message From Our Principals
Dear families,
This month we are grateful for so many reasons!
Because of all of your efforts, we had 57% of our parents (the highest percentage district wide) complete the 5Essentials survey. Prior to break, we had three classrooms reach 80% of parents completing the 5Essentials survey. This qualified three classrooms to engage in a Connect 4 tournament. The class winners were Harper (2M), Mason (2A), and McKenzie (1C). Congratulations to all who played! It was heartwarming to see students shake hands and congratulate their classmates!
Our special education department received a technology grant and six of our classrooms had whiteboards and Smart Boards installed over break. The students have been engaging in a whole new way this past week. We were also awarded a district-level grant for tutoring. So, we invited several of our students to after school tutoring for math and literacy. Tutoring began last week. We are excited to have the opportunity to provide this extra support for our students.
We have a beautiful collaborative community because of all our families. We invite you to our Spring Book Fair and Glacier Ridge Reads this evening (April 11th). Please see the details below. Also look forward to April 20th, where our 2nd and 3rd graders will be performing their musical talents. We look forward to seeing families there as well.
With gratitude,
Dr. Gruper and Mrs. Reinhardt

Safety Drills for 2022-2023
The health and safety of our students and staff are our top priority. Under the Illinois School Safety Drill Act, all public schools are required to conduct a variety of safety drills annually. Drills practiced include fire (3), evacuation (1), shelter-in-place (1), and law enforcement (lockdown/active shooter) (3). See below for our current drill schedule:
- Fire Drills: 9/6/22, 4/14/23 and 4/28/23
- Lockdown Drill: 9/6/22, 4/14/23 and 4/28/23
- Tornado Drill (Shelter-in-Place): 9/6/22
- Bus Evacuation: 9/6/22
Preparing for various scenarios in advance helps empower staff and students in the case of a real emergency. While the chance of an incident happening is unlikely, we care about the well-being of our students and staff and are required by law to educate our school community to ensure emergency preparedness for all.
As indicated above, our school will participate in a lockdown drill on 4/14/23. We understand that some drills, particularly the law enforcement/lockdown drill, coul cause anxiety for some students. Should you have questions about the lockdown drill or wish to opt your child out of the drill, please fill out and submit this form to your child’s school or contact the main office at 815-444-4850. Under state law, schools must still provide alternative safety education related to an active threat to students who do not participate in the lockdown drill.

Morning Arrival
To assist with the traffic in the morning, it would be extremely helpful for car riders to be dropped off between 8:30 and 8:45.
Cell Phones & Smartwatch Policy
Students are allowed to have a cell phone or smartwatch at school as long as it is turned off from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cell phones must remain in the student’s locker at all times during the school day. Smartwatches are not to be used as internet access or cellular devices during the school day. Note: Elementary school lockers do not lock and the school/district is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen personal property. If a student needs to make an emergency call during the day, the student should request permission to go to the main office and use the phone. If parents need to contact their child during the day, they should call the school’s main office. Cell phones will not be allowed on field trips and should be set to silent/vibrate while riding to and from school on a school bus.
Exceptions - Students who require access to a cell phone, app or other electronic device to monitor a medical condition or fulfill an IEP or 504 plan accommodation will be allowed to carry their device during the school day. However, these students will be expected to use the device only for this purpose and must obtain prior approval from school administration.
Additional things to note: District 47 treats any electronic device with the capability to call, text, or take photos as a cell phone/smartwatch. If a student uses the device inappropriately and/or if it causes a disruption during the school day, the device will be confiscated and taken to the school office. See consequences of cell phone violations here.
Families Communicating Immediate Needs
We want to remind families that teachers, staff, and principals prioritize teaching, learning and engaging with students during the school day. They are not expected to monitor their email while school is in session. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for an email response. If your concern is urgent, please contact the school’s main office. Thank you!
Visitors Entering the School
Please know that Mrs. Seisser or Mrs. Stark will follow the new visitor protocol. If you will be volunteering at Glacier Ridge, you will also need to follow our volunteer guidelines and complete a volunteer application. We appreciate your help in keeping our school safe!
