NMS CELEBRATES OUR VETERANS

On November 7th, North Middle School students conducted a Veterans Day assembly to thank the veterans of our community. Several students read poems, the choir sang several songs, and Ms. Updike created a video presentation. Ms. Long's Family & Consumer Science classes also treated the Veterans to a catered lunch. NMS wants to thank ALL of the veterans who served our nation and we appreciate your sacrifice to preserve the freedoms we all enjoy!

**REMINDER: Due to the national Veterans Day remembrance tomorrow, all Berkeley County Schools will be closed for students. See you on Monday!

CHROMEBOOK CORNER

A Google update is to blame for many Chromebooks shutting off randomly lately. There is a new update that was pushed out by Google to try to fix this issue. Students should follow the directions below and let Ms. Deavers know at lunch if their Chromebooks are still shutting down at random times.

CHROMEBOOK CHECKS:

*6th & 7th grades have had their November Chromebook checks already.

*8th Grade Chromebook check is Thursday, November 17th.

*Students should bring their charged Chromebook & chargers with them on Chromebook check day.

*All Chromebooks should NOT have writing or stickers on them!

FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE...

When may students return to school after an Illness? The following guidelines are provided to help you determine if your student is ready to return to school after an illness.

  • Fever free for the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol. A fever is defined as a temperature ≥ 100.4º F.
  • No vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.
  • After at least 24 hours of antibiotic therapy for bacterial illnesses such as strep throat, pneumonia, etc.
  • The child’s appetite and activity level have returned close to normal.
  • Cold symptoms that are mild enough so as not to interfere with your child’s ability to participate in the activity of a normal school day or infect other students. Please remember that cold and cough medicines, including cough drops cannot be given to students by school staff without a doctor’s order.
  • If your child was sent home with a rash, they may return when the rash is resolved or with a doctor’s note stating they are not contagious.
  • If your child’s doctor has prescribed medication that will need to be given during the school day, please remember that an order from the doctor is necessary. Most area physicians have these forms. If not, we would be happy to fax one to their office.
  • During your child’s visit to the doctor, please remember to obtain a note so that your child will be medically excused.

If you have any questions as to whether your child may return to school after an illness, please feel free to call the school nurse. She/he will be happy to assist you in deciding what is best for your child.

DOES YOUR FAMILY NEED ASSISTANCE FOR THE HOLIDAYS?

North Middle School is blessed to have several community organizations that offer assistance to our families during the holidays. To make sure that we include as many families as possible, we would like to hear from parents/guardians if you are in need of holiday meals or gifts this season. Though we cannot guarantee what our school community can provide, we use your input as to what family needs are to continue to work to meet the needs of our school community. If your family could benefit from assistance this holiday season, please fill out this form to let us know.

Thank you!

If you have any questions, reach out to our Communities in Schools Coordinator, Brandon Sarina at brandon.sarina@k12.wv.us

Ms. Gantt's Science students used cell phone microscopes outside to look at insects and plants. Check out the picture of a grasshopper head below!

Ms. Keppler's math classes brushed up on multiplication facts using math Jenga and Bingo!
