Get Ready for Winter Weather
Nov. 28, 2023
Winter Weather is Coming
With temperatures expected to dip below freezing starting this week, the Chehalis School District wants you to feel prepared for schedule changes and service interruptions that can happen because of snow, ice and other severe weather conditions. When deciding whether to delay or close schools, the district looks at:
- Can we ensure buses can navigate the streets safely?
- Will students be safe waiting for buses, walking to school or driving?
- What are predicted weather conditions later in the day?
- Will conditions be substantially improved if we start school late?
- Will we have heat and lights in our schools?
Wondering if the weather outside is going to affect your student's school day? Any change to school schedules or bus routes will be announced through Remind (the district's primary form of communication) as well as posted on the Chehalis School District website and made available through various local radio stations, The Chronicle's website and through FlashAlert. We will make every attempt to announce morning changes by 6 a.m.
Please do not call the transportation office, district office or school offices if you have checked these resources and see no announcement. No announcement means there is no change.
Schedule Changes
When winter weather strikes, the following schedule changes may be announced by the Chehalis School District:

School Dismissed Early

Bus Snow Routes

- Please pay attention to announcements about snow routes as buses may be on AM snow routes, PM snow routes or both.
Bundle Them Up
When temperatures drop during winter, outdoor recesses continue to go on. Parents of students in grades kindergarten through 5th grades, please remember that on cold winter days, your student will still be spending time outside. Sending your student to school with weather-appropriate gear such as a coat, hat and gloves can go a long way toward helping them have a more pleasant day.
Our elementary schools report that they have already accumulated a large collection of winter coats in their lost and found areas. Writing your child's name inside their winter jacket can help ensure your student will be reunited with their coat if they misplace it.
