Happy New Year!!
Welcome back! I hope every family had a great vacation and enjoyed your time together. We are gearing up for the second semester. First semester report cards will be coming home next Monday, January 11th. With the report cards will be notification of your appointment times for the second semester Parent/Teacher conferences which are scheduled for February 4th and 5th. Please confirm these appointments with your child's teacher.
This third quarter is full of several events, for example our second round of SEM clusters will take place on three Thursdays in a row, February 18, 25, and March 3rd. If you would like to volunteer to be a helper, please contact Mrs. Pollock as soon as possible. If you would like to be a cluster leader, you can volunteer for that too. Mrs. Pollock has more information for you. Call our school at 260-1345 and let Mrs. Mills know you are contacting us for volunteering in the SEM program and she will forward your call to Mrs. Pollock.
Another event toward the end of the third quarter is our Forensics competition. We would appreciate volunteers for this event as well. If you would like to help as a runner, judge, time keeper, or parking lot attendant, please call 260-1345 and Mrs. Mills will forward your call to me or Ms. Gossett.
Additionally, students will be competing in "Battle of the Books" events. Students in grades 3-6 can participate and will be practicing during lunches with either Ms. Gossett or Mr. Mills.
Enjoy our January, (and think "snow".)
Sincerely,
Doug Hayman

Health Tip from Mrs. Abel
“Addiction is a complex disease that disrupts regions of the brain responsible for reward, motivation, learning, judgment, and memory. Understanding family history, learning good refusal skills and decision-making skills, and having healthy alternatives for managing stress and anxiety are some ways to help prevent addiction. Prevention that starts early in life is most effective.”
