Mrs. Shorter's Showcase

A Weekly Skills Agenda for the week of February15-19, 2016

This Week in Review

We have completed our learning about the sun, designed, and built shades to cover a bracelet made of UV rays that represents our skin. Several of our shades did not pass the shade test and had to be redesigned and retested. In the end 100% of our shades were effective in either full or partial shade. The students will bring home their shade design sheet to discuss with you on Thursday. Talk about the materials used, the shape of the design, whether or not the design worked and why. Please send these back in the agenda after on Friday. Ask your child to explain to you why we don't want our earth or our bodies to be fully shaded from the sun.

We have been pondering this question all year-How can I keep my body safe and strong? We've discussed this question as we've learned about nutrition, sun safety, health, and long ago and now. This week, we will be completing a small group project to share our learning and conclusions about keeping our bodies healthy and strong.

Art Collaboration

Thank you all for helping your child find a picture of their bird. We began the collaboration today by looking at the features of the birds and the shapes within the bird's body. From their, everyone drew a picture of their bird looking closely at shapes that will be used when forming the clay into birds on our next visit. We'll begin an in-depth study of birds next week. We would love for you to share your expertise or materials (books, pictures, etc.).

Mystery Reader

Please let me know if you are interested in coming out to be a mystery reader. As mystery reader, you would be responsible for reading to the class for about 15 minutes following our lunch at 11:30.
