Jay Gatsby (James Gatz)
"The Great Gatsby"
"I cant describe to you how surprised I was to find out I loved her, old sport." Gatsby p. 150
Gatsbys heart
Throughout the book Gatsby is doing everything in his power to win over Daisy. He throws giant parties just hoping she shows up. He talks to both Nick and Jordan trying to do everything in his power to get to her. He is deeply in love with her still. But at the end of the book Daisy sticks with Tom... I dont know about anyone else but my heart would be broken. He waited years for her and he just gets shot down. So I believe this broken heart is a symbol of Gatsbys probable depression and broken heartedness.
Money Vortex
Of course the money is a symbol of Gatsby. Probably the most overused symbol for him. Why am I using it then? Well, its accurate. But as you can tell the money is in the form of a vortex. I did this because no matter how much money Gatsby would use, it wouldnt make him happy. It would do the opposite. Gatsby thought that Daisy would be impressed because of his big house and all his money. But she wasnt. Money did not bring Gatsby joy. The money was useless. It ended up being his demise also. Gatsbys flashy car was the one that hit myrtle. Thats the reason Wilson came and shot him. So the money pulled him to death as if it were a vortex.
"If you want anything just ask for it, old sport" -48
I picked this as a quote for Gatsby because it shows not only how polite and hospitable he is, but also how wealthy he is. He knows it to. He just met Nick and Jordan when he says this. He says it as if hes known them for years, or as if they are friends he hasnt seen in a long time. I think it really shows how much of a gentleman he is.

Lover of Money, Daisy, and Entertainment
Who feels Love for Daisy, anger for Tom, and Sorrow over his broken heart.
Who needs the love of Daisy, to answer the phone everytime hes called, and nice things to impress people.
Who gives wild parties for all of New York, a brand new dress to his guest who ripped her dress, and all his attention to Daisy.
Who fears his past, rejection, and loneliness.
Who would like to see Daisy, stability, and happiness.
