February 2024
Amy Belle Elementary
Principal's Corner
Hello Amy Belle Families,
It is February! We had a very inconsistent January due to planned days off and two snow days. I am hoping that February is a little more uneventful as we work on our semester 2 goals and learning targets. As we head into the second half of the year, we always look for age appropriate ways that our students can become more independent. Think about ways that you can foster this at home as well. Checklists and visuals are great ways to support children so that they can accomplish routines independently at home.
This month our character trait focus is honesty. This is an important concept when students make mistakes or poor choices. The goal is for students to take accountability for their actions and use the opportunity to learn from it. Our definition for honesty is being truthful in what you say or do. When children are able to be honest about their words and actions, you are able to have them be reflective and come up with a better way to handle a situation or problem. Ask you child what they learned about honesty and look for ways you can incorporate it at home. This helps students see how they can use these skills throughout their day. We appreciate your partnership! As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Katie Kohel
Counselor's Corner
During our Classroom Guidance classes, students in grades K-4 have been learning how to understand and recognize their own and others' feelings. They've been learning about 'Chill-skills' which are specific strategies used for calming down when they are experiencing big emotions. Using 'chill- skills' helps us manage strong feelings and helps us take back control without hurting anyone or anything.
In 5th Grade Guidance classes, our students have been preparing for a G-Talk Conference with the School Counselor and their parents. This conference will aid in the transition to Middle School and help students articulate their strengths and challenges as a learner. An email will be sent out soon for 5th-grade families to schedule their G-Talk for a date in March.
My email address is jrunde@gsdwi.org and my school extension is 1140. You can also visit my website to learn more about the Comprehensive School Counseling program at Amy Belle.
Thanks,
Jen Runde
Registration for School Year 2024-25
Our 4K and 5K registration and/or new families is open. Please complete the online registration if you have an incoming 4K or 5K* for the 24/25 school year. Please note that proof of residency and immunizations documents can be uploaded online, but birth certificates need to come into our office at Amy Belle to be verified in person. For more information on GSD's 4K program, please click here.
*NOTE: Online registration is just for new families entering the district. If you currently have a 4K student at Amy Belle, you do NOT need to go through the entire online registration process for them to enter 5K in the 24/25 school year. You will need to "verify" their enrollment for 5K during the summer months. Information on how to verify their enrollment for the next school year will come via email (in July), and is done through Skyward.
More enrollment information and specifics can be found here. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the office at 262-628-7825.
