Metalworks
The making of the coins
The Gupta kings controlled huge mines of gold, copper, and iron. When the metal workers were making gold and copper coins they engraved Gupta rulers into them. This highlighted the king's achievements, politics, and war. It also highlighted their wealth.
Iron work
Gupta metal workers were also famous for their metal work. they made an iron pillar in a place called Meharauli. This pillar is made of solid iron and it is 25 feet tall and weighs about 14,000 pounds. There is a story engraved on the side of this pillar that describes the accomplishments of a Gupta emperor. After 1,600 years in the rain and sun the iron is almost completely rust free and it is still a mystery to how the iron workers had such advanced metal working skills.
