Message from the Principal
Black Bear Families,
The end of January brings with it the promise of colder temperatures and possibly a snowy day? It doesn’t look quite like that yet. It looks like next week we may be moving into much colder weather than normal. Please make sure that your students come to school in temperature appropriate clothing. We rarely cancel recess for cold temperatures as it’s important for our students to move throughout the day.
We had our first OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) competition in our library yesterday. Student teams were given really difficult questions to answer about the books and the teams scored really well! We have eight teams advancing to the next round on Monday. Thanks to our Building Library Media Coordinator, Kathleen Cunnington, for all of her work organizing this for our school, all of the volunteers that came in to help, and the parents that came to watch. Congratulations to ALL of the students who participated in OBOB this year!
We are also looking for some people wanting to work with us. Aggi, our cook, needs an assistant to help prepare the great meals she serves to our lucky students. This middle of the day job is perfect for parents looking to pick up a few hours every week while supporting our students with great nutrition. And who wouldn’t want to work with our amazing Aggi?
One final notice: we are quickly approaching our deadline for opting out of lessons for our upcoming Health Curriculum. You have received information about this in the form of a letter home and an email from me. The deadline is February 2nd for opting out. If you need any assistance with this, please contact the office.
As always, thank you for all you do for our students. I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
Working with you for kids,
Jim
School Community Need
We are sad to report the passing of three year old Abraham Torres Hernandez over our Winter Break. The Torres Hernandez family has been a part of our community for the past decade. In order to assist the family, we’ve created a Go fund me for the family, and are sharing the link with our community to help cover expenses. Thank you for your consideration!
Spirit Wear Update
Join Tualatin Elementary Site Council!
Hello Families,
Site Council is looking for new parent members! What is Site Council you ask? The Tualatin Elementary Site Council is a group of teachers, parents and classified staff who work with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and make recommendations for how to use our school resources. Our Site Council’s main goal is to increase student achievement by improving instructional programs, plan professional development and foster family involvement. We also discuss school needs, enrichment opportunities and grant funding. Our Site Council meets each month after school from 2:45-3:30.
If you are interested in joining Site Council please email Amy Barnes the Site Council Chair at abarnes@ttsd.k12.or.us.
We look forward to new parents joining Site Council.
Vision Screening
We are also looking for volunteers to assist! If you can help with this--training is given--please contact Amanda (503-431-4801). Volunteers are needed from 8:00-10:00.
