Holy Rosary School Lapathon
Term 3 has a very busy calendar and given the fun filled nature of our lapathons, it will be run on Saint Dominic's Day, week 3, Friday 6th August.
There is more information to come re Saint Dominic's Day. It includes mass, mini fete, sausage sizzle some classroom fun & activities. The lapathon will be the final part of the day commencing at 2pm and running for 30 minutes.
In the past our children have been asked to make a gold coin donation for the Saint Dominic's Day activities, with funds raised donated to Lifelink.
A donation to LifeLink will still be made in 2021, however rather than asking parents to donate twice on the same day, the P&F will be donating the first $1500 raised from the lapathon to LifeLink (which is a little bit more than the funds raised in the past few years).
Our children will therefore be sharing with their classmates & buddies, raising funds for those external to the school, directly raising money for our new playground while having fun and celebrating all that is Holy Rosary School together.
Where:
The Lapathon will take place on the upper school oval.
Lap Length:
PP - Yr2 will run laps of 150m (inside circle)
Yr3 -Yr6 will run laps of 220m (outer circle)
What to wear:
St Dominic's Day is a 'free dress' day, with the request to wear appropriate sports shoes.
Pledge Forms:
Our students will be bringing their named Pledge forms home on Friday 23rd July.
Could each student please RETURN their pledge forms to their classroom by Thursday 5th August.
A link can be found below to a blank form in case of any misplaced or damaged forms.
Each student will be given a lap card on the day. This card will be stamped after each lap, as they run past their year groups stamping station.
There will also be a 3 lap timed novelty race (Covid permitting) which can be completed by those interested as a team of 2 from the same year group (each lap counts as 2 but only if all 3 are completed);
- First lap – tied together at the wrist
- Second lap – standing back to back arms linked – so one person runs forwards and the other backwards for an entire lap. They can switch who is running forward or backwards as they go if needs be.
- Third lap – starting and finishing together but before the finish time is given the team needs to get 3 questions right out of 5
At the end of the lapathon they will be asked to hand in the lap cards to their year groups stamping station in exchange for an Icy pole.
Their total laps will then be recorded on their pledge form & it will be returned to the student before pick up or on Monday, so they can take it home & collect the money they have raised.
The lap card will remain with the organisers to help work out prizes which will be announced at the Year 6 Assembly on Friday 20th August.
How to transfer the money raised:
Money can be raised by giving an amount per lap or a flat donation.
At the completion of the lapathon, the student will have the number of laps written on their form so that they can collect on their pledges.
All students are asked to return their forms & money raised by Thursday 12th August.
You can send cash in a clearly marked envelope with the students full name and class name or make a funds transfer direct to the P&F account and tick the relevant payment option on the pledge form you are returning.
Please return the form even if no money was raised as based on the laps completed your child may receive 1 or more tickets into the prize raffle.
