Letter from the Principal
Dear Tualatin Black Bear Families,
We are excited to start welcoming Tualatin Elementary staff back to school on Monday, August 30th. Teachers and Specialists will be in trainings and professional development throughout the week to be prepared for 1st-5th graders on Wednesday, September 8th. Our PreK - Kindergarten staff will be ready for their students on Monday, September 14th. Thank you to all our parents and family members who have taken time to view our Welcome Back to School video recording (English and español) and then take the parent survey. We are working with the other 9 elementary schools to provide a frequently asked questions document to help everyone understand how in-person school will work starting this fall.
As I shared last week, we are once again relying on the strong family partnerships needed to responsibly open school on September 8th. Our goal is to keep our school doors open each day this year while following current safety and health guidance.
Some reminders for what to expect:
Masks required for all adults and students indoors
Updated: Masks required for all adults and students outside
Students will be distancing at 3 feet during the school day
Adults will be distancing at 6 feet during the school day
Masks are not required while eating during lunch
We will distance students at a minimum of 6 feet during lunch while eating
Students will have music and PE with safety measures
Family socials planned for August 28th
PreK: 1:00 - 2:00 PM
Kindergarten: 2:00 - 3:00 PM
Volunteers should be able to come back to school starting in October
Early next week you all can expect to be contacted by your child’s teacher(s) to schedule a personal family connect meeting. This will help your child’s teacher understand your family’s goals and any student individual needs right away. Parents will also be able to ask specific questions about what their child’s school day schedule will be like.
We were sorry to have to postpone our Family Barbecue Social that we look forward to every year. We hope to be able to reschedule it to late Spring when the weather warms.
Thank you for your trust and partnership as we get ready to safely and responsibly return to full days of school.
Warm Regards,
Mr. Kingery

Interested in being more involved? Have great organizational skills? Volunteer to be the PTA secretary! We also urgently need a chair for the Memory Book. If you need assistance with supplies, please contact our Family Partnership Liaison, Veronica Aguilar, at 503-431-4767.
If you would like to donate school supplies, you may drop them off at the school.
Apply Now for Free and Reduced Meals
Applications are good for so much more than just free meals. With an approval Letter of Eligibility families can get discounted internet, waived fees at the high school level and other scholarship opportunities outside of the district. IF there is future funding for P-EBT families in need could benefit from this greatly...but you need to apply!
Even if you are unsure if you qualify, we encourage you to apply. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Veronica Aguilar at 503-431-4767.
Back to School Student Verification
The verification window is now open from August 9 to September 30. Families can log into their ParentVue account to review and update their family and student information. This process ensures schools can contact families in case of an emergency and families receive important district and school updates. Families will also have the option of adding their student's vaccination status.
