POWER UP PIRATES!!
Hello Siegrist Families!
This week we had an opportunity to celebrate being a Platte County Pirates! With everyday being a special spirit day, all students and staff joined in on Homecoming Spirit week. This week not only did we bring spirit in supporting our favorite Pirate Football team, we also had an opportunity to celebrate being a Siegrist Pirate.
As shared before, our theme for the year is Power Up Pirates. Our entire school community has been powering up with a One Word. These words have been selected by each individual in supporting them to have their best year ever. Students have found that finding and identifying their one word has been as important as the word itself. No matter what the word is that was personally chosen, the power comes from once they know their word and how they use it to fuel themselves to do their best and work daily to keep getting better, in meeting personal goals. I encourage everyone to take a moment to watch our Homecoming Power Video by clicking the picture above.
I also want to thank Mrs. Burrnett and Miss. Ball for taking the lead in creating our video. As you will see at Siegrist we are passionate about our words, because words hold power. I also want to encourage you to ask your child what they love about their word? What does it mean to them? And How are they using it daily at school and at home?
Thank you for always supporting us as we continue to power up at Siegrist!
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton
MISSON TO MARS PROJECT
Fifth Graders have been working on their Mission to Mars project in Ms. Stosberg's science class! They researched how NASA creates parachutes and tests them to safely send them to space, then used the Engineering Design Process to create prototypes, test their prototypes, and collect data. This week they tested their FINAL parachute outside to see if their process was a success!
WINN DIXIE
Mrs. Jeffries’ third graders finished their first chapter book Because of Winn-Dixie this week. They celebrated by recreating the party scene at the end of the book. Kids dressed like characters, tried Otis’ pickles, and brought their pets for Gertrude’s Pet Store. They enjoyed lunch in the room and singing songs led by our own “Otis,” Jaxton. It was a fun day!

Help Your Child Succeed In School
Build The Habit of Good Attendance Early
Research shows that good attendance helps students achieve in school. Each month we will highlight our Siegrist average student attendance. At this age parents, guardians, grandparents, and others are instrumental in helping to make sure our students are in attendance. The state and district goal for attendance is 90% of the students in attendance 90% of the time, or greater.
DID YOU KNOW?
Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Lay out clothes and pack a backpack the night before.
Ask questions about your child’s school day…How was your day? What did you do today? Tell me something you talked about or learned in school today.
Ask to see what students are bringing home in his/her take home folder.
Look forward to reading your teacher’s Thursday newsletter, it has critical information about what your child is learning/doing.
As the season is changing and the weather is getting cooler, please review the districts’ snow day policy and check to make sure you are getting the notifications from district via email and text to prepare for the upcoming change in weather.
If you have concerns, or need anything, partner with your child’s teacher, school counselor, school nurse or administrator, we are here to help your child be successful!
Monthly Average Attendance
August, 2022 - 96.77%
September, 2022 - 95.27%
