The Tiger Times
Week of March 19 through March 23
Hello Tiger Family!
Happy Spring Break Saturday everyone!!
I hope each of you got to spend the last week doing exactly what makes your hearts the happiest. Doing what makes you happy and what you have passion for inspired this week's greeting.
The Tiger Times is important to me and I work hard on it each week. It has so many purposeful reasons to live. My favorite part, though, is this part, the greeting. Sharing with you how I feel about our kids and the power that we have to change their world. Uncovering an article, video or blog that highlights the immense power each of us has as an individual to make a difference in every moment of every day. Finding the thing that speaks to my heart, screaming, "TIMBERLINE!!"
A few weeks ago, Nicole shared a video with me, telling me that she hoped I could find time to watch it. She said "...it really spoke to her heart." It was incredible and I told her that, then filed it with the other videos that have been shared so I could use them for future "Hello Tiger Familys"greetings.
Then I thought about what George Couros has said about "needing to make the positive so loud that the negative becomes almost impossible to hear." Every week I get the chance to be a loud positive but everyone should have the chance to share their passion for our school and for teaching. To shout their sappy, idealistic ideas from the roof tops about how we can do this even better. So starting next Tiger Times, this space belongs to all of us. Let me know if you'd like to be the positive for a Tiger Times and I'll get you signed up.
Blessed and blissed to be your principal,
Shelley

- Relationships so that we can significantly impact discipline and learning!
- Tier 1 instruction because the teacher is THE best person to provide initial instruction and the first time students get this instruction is their very best chance of learning it!
Renewing Our Focus on Learning Targets
As we draw closer to "testing season", we will continue to look at Tier 1 instruction as our very best strategy for preparing students. Our focus remains on long-term learning vs short-term test prep.
The short article below highlights the importance of not just developing a strong target, but sharing this target with students in a way they can understand. It also looks at the importance of using this target with students throughout the lesson to evaluate whether students are "getting it" .

Nuts and Bolts is our "virtual faculty meeting". Please read all information carefully and reach out if you have any questions or need clarification.
The district deadline for your Timberline website page to be updated is prior to March 19th. See Audra's email from Wed, Feb 28, 2018 at 8:13 AM (provided to help search) for tutorials, screencasts, etc. she's created and other helpful advice. Please ensure that you have this completed prior to tomorrow.
Staff, although we have seen some improvement, there are still ongoing incidents with the bathrooms, particularly the boys', This has included using urinals inappropriately, items from the classroom being placed in toilets, and vandalism to bathroom property. In an effort to protect property and for the safety of our students, we will have the following bathroom policy in place beginning the week of March 19th:
- Restroom breaks should be taken as a class.
- If there is an emergency outside of class break time, a student should have another student accompany him or her to the restroom.
- We will revisit policy at the end of the week as well as consider all feedback from staff to determine what changes, if any, there will be moving forward.
Fourth grade is continuing their fund raising efforts for the Austin trip and can use your help. They are asking for $5 gift card donations to use for prizes this Friday night at BINGO Night. If you'd like to help more, 2 $5 gift cards rather than 1 $10 gift card is appreciated!
Information Regarding Registration for the 2018 Language Academy: The goal of our summer program is to support our bilingual and ESL students through engaging activities as they continue to strengthen their English skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Registration for the Language Academy will begin the week of March 26. Anne Ricci has identified the ESL/Bilingual students on your campuses. The registration forms will be sent to your assistant principal to be passed on to the classroom teachers. The parents will be asked to complete the registration form and return it along with the applicable payment.
Teachers will have an envelope to place the collected fees in. They will then give the envelope to your assistant principal daily. The teachers will be reminded not to keep any money in their rooms overnight. Once a week Anne will come by to pick up all of the money that has been collected. Receipts will be written and sent back to the teachers to give to the students as proof of payment. She is hoping to have a majority of the registration and fees collected by Friday, April 27. The numbers for staffing is totally dependent on the enrollment.
